s2000 or lotus elise

well just been browsing the search forums and i found this lotus elise video. when i used live in london i thought these cars stuck out the most out of all the bmws and mercs. since i'm here in the big va i was just wondering what car would you guys rather get. both of them new cost just about the same!

would u choose a new s2000
or the lotus elise

i hate converts but i would def rock the elise any day
so my choice would have to be the lotus. to me its a pure drivers car.

but still the s2k does well on the track with the elise. i've seen a vid on it. pretty much even on the track. with the honda parts and service, reliability, and the fact its not going to cost a arm & leg to get replacement parts i may lean towards the honda.

Keep in mind that the suspension tuning, body panels, well everything but the engine, is not Toyota. I don't imagine parts outside of the engine being cheap...mainly drive axels and such...

Your still talking about a car that costs, 45,000 (with the options I'm getting) how much can parts actually cost? Sure Labor at the dealer ship will be an arm and a leg, but engine maintinance... thats toyota at work..

the s2000 is an amazing car, quite possibly the best sports car of it's price and time, but, the elise is better in almost ever respect, be warned though, it's a drivers car, no sissys wanted, expect a lot of road noise, a stiff ride, unforgiving suspension, EVERYTHING a car should have...

Tough call. A high revving Honda engine or a high revving Toyota engine. The S2000 has been known for being a true driver's car, but after the '04 upgrade it looks like the Elise is going to be a lot better esp. w/ its MR layout and lighter weight. The Elise also looks nice. The S2000 has become more of a daily ride while still being the cool car that it is.

In the end, I'd just flip a coin cuz I can't pick.

Heres the stats on the 2005 elise (The US version)

Weight 1,980 pounds
Hp 190
Wheelbase (in.): 90.5
Length (in.): 149.0
Height (in.): 43.9

Wheels: 8-spoke cast alloy
Front - 5.5J x 16, Rear - 7.5J x 17
Tyres: Yokohama Advan Neova AD07
Front - 175/55 R16, Rear - 225/45 R17
(sport pacage comes with wider front wheels)
Yokohama Tires - Front 195/50 R16 AO48R Rear 225/45 R17 AO48R

Performance
0-60 mph: 4.9 sec, 4.7 sec (Sports Pack)
0-100 mph: 13.0 sec
Standing 1/4: circa 13.6 sec
Top speed: 150 mph
0 - 100 mph - 0: circa 17.5 sec
100 mph - 0: circa 85m

For Luxury... What Luxury???? The cabin is pretty much barren. Full Carpet is an option, as are Sound Insulation, Electric windows and leather seats. You get a Stereo, and an A/C and cloth interior Standard, other wise this thing is a Minimilistics dream. Dont expect to impress the ladies with the creature comofots of your "Luxury" car.... This thing is ment to be driven

So, If you want comfort then Get the S2000, If you want to drive get the Elise.

man that would be the ultimate 2nd car. i thought my dx was pretty stripped down but having carpet as an option is way out there. since i'm short i think i wouldnt have a problem driving the car. when does it come out in the u.s market?

The Elise will spank the S2000 in almost every category, from gas mileage to looks to performance. The only thing the S2000 has in it's favor is a lower sticker price, and more creature comforts.

Does the Elise have a trunk? If so, is it substantial or is it like saying a Camaro has a backseat?

I think in a couple of years an Elise would be cool, if the consumer market catches on. Not much support for them in the US market yet. Another thing to consider is that the history of the company has not been to stellar. Great little car though, they just need more financial backing for R&D, etc..

the Elise has about as much storrage space as a MR2 Spyder... Wich isnt very much. and its located Right behind the Engine in the back. (the front has an air ducting system for the Radiator. )

Haha. The MR-S has about enough room for a balled up T-shirt if you take the spare tire out.

Sure the Elise has nice numbers, but for that price, I'd take the S2k unless I had the money, then I'd go fer the Elise, which I don't.

i'm sure the elise is like the s2000, a very technically hard car to drive

i raced many s2000 with my civic with not much problems. most s2k drivers don't heel-to and use throttle control to go thru the turns

but once u get a competent driver behind the s2k, omg, they are wicked quick
