Man, that makes my next car decision a bit harder. I don't know about the evolution because of reliability issues but I am not savvy when it comes to mitsubishi's and boost solutions in atlanta is making a 1000bhp evo 8.....that makes me smile.....they got about 600 whp at 29 psi then the intercooler pipe blew off on the 35 psi run. That makes me rethink dsm's
i still like the wrx when it comes to looks! for the price though, i rather get a used e46 m3 and just pimp it! plus i heard beamer drivers gets the most *** from a recent poll!!
just my 2 cents.

Ya konw whats sad about this.... a Little sports car with a whoping 190 Hp would still beat that thing around that track.... and the name of that sports car... the Lotus Elise. But for an overweight sport sedan its pretty good. Not too easy on tires though.
AWD is overrated when it comes to road racing.

^^^i was just thinking how bad he was beating them tires. the lotos elise is a nice car too! i saw this vid once racing with a f50 around a race course and it was putting up a fight. one question though!!! why dont they make these rally cars in a coupe!? i think the evo or wrx would look alot better in a coupe then sedan!

Every comparison test I've seen or read has had the Evo running similar or better road course times than cars costing 4x as much.
The Elise might be more FUN to drive, but quicker? I dunno. My money is on the Evo

The Lotus is nice, but aren't those two very differernt cars your comparing. At the Lancer's price, you can't have it do everything. Theres some sacrifices you have to give up for Track, drag strip, and daily cruising. I think the Lancer is a great all around car. The Lotus is probably weak in the other areas besides track runs.

Audi Did very well in the 80s with their quatro system in the GT series. Properly tuned an AWD car can have the best chariteristics of both FWD and RWD platforms, Improperly tuned it can have the Worst chariteristics of both. In a racing series where cars are looslly based on their production counterparts (Such as the GT series) a Compeditive team would have the time/skill and $$$ to tune that chassis to near perfection. ON a production car, where designers build the car to accomodate the Lowest common denominator, that great tuning dissapears. Look at the cars in question, the Subaru WRX and STi and the EVO 8. all of them Fun cars, but none of them are compeditive in their Near stock classes. (I autocross so thats where I draw my info from) The WRX runs D-Stock, and gets creamed by the Integra Type R and the BMW 330Ci. the Sti and the EVO 8 are both in A-Stock and they can't manage to out run a 12+ year old Corvette. Once you start modifying then they get more compeditive but it seems not by much. Example, The 2004 Atwater Pro Solo, the WRX is one of the most popular cars for STX, and yet an STS preped 89 Si Civic placed in the top 3 of that class. (and both 1st and 2nd place drivers in STS were Faster then all the STX cars, were STX is suppose to be the faster class). The STi has all but dissapeard out of the autocross scene, replaced by the Decidly more menuverabl EVO 8, wich it seems is only good for ESP, were traditionaly the Mustangs and Cameros play.
So its been my experiance that AWD is great in the rain, its great when there is just about any adverse track conditions and its great for launches, but when the cars currently offered are run againts cars in their class the AWD cars almost allways get beat.
Oh ya, and the lotus is only 40,000

But yes, in an autox, I'd put my money on the Elise, not the Evo. The S2000, for example, seems to be a wicked autox machine. Light, nimble, and the ability to rotate on a whim all seem to winning autox attributes. Heck, I bet my wife's civic would beat my GST in a parking lot race (I call it her "Urban Combat Vehicle"). But on a road course... different story
