From the sound of this story it seems like Mitsubishi may fold.

When I read a while back that Chrysler was sending people to Mitsu to teach them how to streamline manufacturing I almost choked on my coffee.

it was bound to happen. they might make decent cars, and their rally team may be amazing, but they suck at market strategy. they dont know how to sell cars.
i went to a subaru dealer when the STi first came out and was talking to him and he was telling me how the STi is limited production and every unit they planned to get is already sold. and he was telling me how the EVOs are just sitting on the lot because mitsubishi just made too much of them and there was not enough people who buy them simply because its a car for a very specialized market. when i heard that i just laughed at mitsubishi because its like they dont even know simple economic principles like supply/demand.
either way tho, theyre not gonna fold. they mean too much to japan simply because of their size. someone is gonna buy them out and completely restructure them. its a perfect opportunity because im sure their stock is going to plummet. but they seem on the ball from a design standpoint, they just need to streamline their market strategy.

it was really only a matter of time, their quality has never been that good, and frankly its getting worse. Mitsubishi will still be around but Mitsubishi Motors won't....oh well sucks for them, i could care less.
On the STI's vs EVO's...
They probably arent selling their EVO's because their rally program has been in shambles since they last won in 1999. I know Subaru can sell STI's like hotcakes because their Impreza platform has consistant wins. They advertise the snot out of it as a rally based road car. The EVO stopped winning almost 5 years ago. Their new rally car isnt making a good start either. Its a new car and hopefully they can get the bugs worked out before the end of the year so that they can be atleast competitive for 2005. Otherwise they will be competing with the likes of Hyundai and Skoda again, pending their returns.
As silly as it sounds, Rally has a huge influence on motor sales world wide
Bad news for Mitsubishi though. But I must admit, I dont care much for their cars or engines. Never have.

Chysler already beeen using Mitsu motors and stuff for ages, the old caravans used mitsus 2.0L motors, the current sebring and stratus i think runs on the eclipse platforma dn some other eclipse parts sharing in the motor, come to think of it chrysler been selling stripped down mitsus in the past... the summit was basically the older lancers stripped down it was Rebadge as Colt/Eagle Brand (which chrysler owned).. they sold many mitsu cars that were rebadged
