PPL with an AUTO!

I have an Auto Si (EX in the states)

Just a question... for those of you who have got an intake, header, exhaust and whatever else... would u say it's been worthwhile modding it, or is it just a waste of money??? A lot of ppl have been saying all those mods for our cars (auto) won't give any worthful gains. Is this true? Any input would be appreciated. I know our D17 motors are meant to be very fuel efficient, that's why it's not sensitive to bolt-ons.

Should I just leave the motor as it is and just upgrade something else, such as the suspension and audio... etc etc?

Yeah, don't bother with those things. You'll hardly gain anything, and you will have spent a lot of money and time fiddling with those things. Just work on suspension, and forget about the engine. Get ready for people to come on here and say "don't bother because you have an auto" don't listen to them. The Civic isn't a sportscar and the automatic transmission in these cars is very good (I have an automatic EL) so don't worry about it. Just don't waste your money on engine "mods" because they really won't get you anywhere.

Thanks for the reply!
I agee... besides... I'm planning on doing a complete swap in a couple years or so! I'll spend the money on things that'll further prepare me for the engine i wanna get. So for now, it's gonna be suspension, sound, and looks!
Take it easy man! Later!

but its not like those with manuals get any sort of decent power out of those mods either, no matter what kinda tranny you hook up to a civic engine its still slow.

agreed...you can however work on engine response...though there isnt much out there....

if you're gonna do a motor swap though, you might as well hold of on the intake, headers, cat, etc....

personally i love suspension...theres is so much to learn...have looks, brakes, and sound...once your engine is in you will have a standout car

save your money for a car worthy enough for engine mods.

There is no "kit" for suspension, I feel it's a combination of things that will make the difference, and also depends on your driving style. You can get race springs, love the look and cornering abilities, but hate the ride.

i think the mods are worthwhile. i get about 5 mile per gallon more now than when i first bought the car, and even more on the interstate. savings on gas is very important with the damn prices shooting through the roof. plus you car sounds good and the fart can coming out of the back looks good too. j/k about the fart can. but i like the i/h/e on my car.

Yea, just work on the interrior and exterrior thats about it. Then till the motor burns out then just do a swap and youre done . Then you'll have the looks and speed

yea i first spent all my money on mods thinking i can go fast on a auto, a manual will still smoke me with all this crap... its not worth it anymore, so i have just shifted my resources to suspention, i am almost done, i just need bushings and a rear upper tie bar... and my suspention will be finished, im just going to finish some exterior stuff, then im going to do the swap, it looks like my transmition is dieing on me right now... so im giving my car another 15k till the tranny is done for... that will be about a year and enought time for me to save enough for a swap

I dont think there is any more of a point to mod a manual more than an auto, sure the auto is slower than the manual, I didnt get a big gain from the mods, I am still glad I did them because they are some of the basics most people do to a car, mine is by no means fast but I still enjoy the look and sound of it.

I say if you want to do it then go for it, if not then go with the suspension mods like the guys above said, you might not be able to beat a car in a straight line but you could sure as hell beat them in the corners.

I say get an Intake and Exhaust, mainly just for looks and sound. Our cars look funny from behind with a kit or whatever and a stock exhaust...same with the engine bay- you pop open your hood you need something to look at. Also, it just sounds nice (if you buy the right stuff...)

Thats what i did-
