which gas do u use? edit:: +oil
which gas do u use? edit:: +oil
i know it's sound silly....but still..
im still not sure about the octane number that i should use...
seems like using 93 got no difference with 87..
now now, i know it's sound silly...it's obvious that 93 is better....
but, in term of performance, does it has anything for '02 EX civic?
i also know that u gotta use 89 or 93 for '00 SI....that's my bro's car...
anyway, my car is an all-stock-civic....and i change shift at most at 3000rpm..
damn i do look like a granny...ha ha ha...
so, whaddya guys think? (actually im concerned in long term effect of using 87...)

If you would
you'd have an answer...nah.. just playing. But I use standard 87. Dont waste your money with 93 gas. I have bought e-10, 10 ethanol, and get better mpg with using that, but they dont sell that around here. I say, save your money, buy 87.

even if u buy premium gas it wont make much or any difference on the way the car drives...it wont give u better milage or anything...if it doesnt say "Use Premium only" than use regular...i use regular...i just give my engine 5W-30 oil rather thant he 5W-20...after i get my k20 swap im gonna be using full synthetic...prolly 10W-30 or 15W-50
a ha..
i think i get enough good information about the gas..
now, about the oil..
i was wondering about my next oil change..
it says to use 5w20, damn heck, it's hard to find that type of oil around here..
the one i know, with synth type of oil, is the AMSOIL...
mobil 1 doesn't carry 5w20 at all....the other oil i saw in wallie-mart is the penzoil gtx, non-synth, but it's a 5w20..
now now now...u guys, who used '02 civic for some times, which type of oil is better?
anyway, i lived in Buffalo, NY, with crazy winter and good summer...so, it's a "perfect" 4 seasons. i'm wondering to use 5w30 mobil 1 synth for the next oil change....
anything better than that? anyway, i think i'll definitely use synth...so, your suggestion should be synth oils, i guess...
anyway, this is for '02 civic EX...
edit++
i use Mobil for gas...and probably mobil1 for oil..
i only got sunoco, mobil, delta sonic....hm, some others...around buffalo, ny

I use regular gas from whatever station is cheapest....most of them get the gas from the same places anyway.
lease:
As far as oil...I just have Honda change mine because im lazy, and they only charge me $14.95. Oil brands...it doesnt matter, its an econobox car. Synthetic oil really isnt necessary, I live in NH and have never had a problem with "Honda" oil....

I use 87 octane gas I have no problems. Si uses 89+ because they have a higher compression ratio than our cars. It is really hard to get 5w20 I know Wal-Mart sells them but you can only get 1liter and they are expensive. I use 5w 30 in the winter and 10w 30 in the summer. The deference between the two is 5w 30 is thinner oil than 10w 30. It is easier to start your engine in the winter and in the summer it is better to have a thicker oil to protect your engine parts when you first start the car.

I usually use the 89 w/ethanol stuff. My car seems to run good with it. I rarely use the 87, because around here, 89 is cheaper than 87. . Every once in a great while I'll use the 93, just cause the additives that are in there are good to run through your fuel system from time to time.
As far as oil goes, I switched to Mobile 1 Synthetic awhile back. I don't think I'm ever going to use anything different. It's the 0W-20 stuff. Seems to make the engine run a lot smoother than with any of the others that I've used. It's expensive though, usually around $5 per quart. Always a Honda filter and a new drain plug washer and always changed between 3000 and 4000 miles. No exceptions.

wait..
so u guys think that it's ok to use 5w30 for a long term period? i mean...for use the whole year?
hm...or 0w20 mobil1?
0w20 is easy to get in wallie-mart....5w30 is even better, cheaper and they got tons of em..
they got none of 5w20....they even use crappy 5w20 in honda dealer....i was told that u gotta pay more to use the original honda 5w20..
so, if u pay $27 or something, they use crappy 5w20, not honda's oil..

I have used 87 octane for all but one or two tankfuls in all the 89,000 miles of driving I have done.
As for oil I have always used 5W20 - the brands: Ford , Texaco Havoline , Valvoline and Castrol GTX.

Octane is a rating of a fuels resistance to ignite. The higher the octane, the harder it is to get to ignite. A higher octane may be necessary to prevent pre-ignition and detonation in a high performance engine. Higher octane fuel will generally burn slightly slower than a lower octane fuel which could require a change in ignition timing. Using more octane than you need will not help power, the slower burn rate will actually cause you to lose some power.
So NO 91 is not the better fuel for our cars, because we don't make enough compression.
Oil... Depends on the temperature, thiner for cold weather, thicker for hot.

i use 87 only. i might have put 89 in it once or twice, just for a change. as far as oil change-- same thing as most members-- take it to the cheapest shop (not the honda dealership in my case), and have then do it for 20 bux or so.
The bottom line here guys, is we have Civics...the cheapest gas and the cheapest recomended oil will do just fine. No need to "upgrade" unless you have significant engine mods. (ie: Turbo, Supercharged, Built internals, etc etc, and if you have those, I pray you already know enough about your car to not have to ask about oil and gas on a message board.)
awesome informations!!
thanx guys!!
i think i'll definitely stick with 87 now....according to the burn resistance that one of the post talked about, i think it is better to use 87 with the engine compression of our civics....
now, for the oil..
i got two choices....and this will be for summer and for the winter..
1. Mobil 1 Synthetic - 5W30
2. Penzoil GTX - 5W20 (non-synthetic, i believe...)
both are available easily on Wallie-Mart...my fav' choice for oil change...
which should i use for both seasons? or maybe i can switch between season?
which best to use for BOTH seasons?
OK, thinner for winter....thicker for summer...
thinner, winter << 5w20 <---> 5w30 >> thicker, summer?
how about 0w20? it's thinner, right?
Anybody know the exact amount of oil that we've to put into our engine? (quart)?
thanx guys!!

amsoil 5w-20 kinda sucks for amsoil.. use the amsoil 5w30, its about as thick as normal 5w20... and much better
as for gas, i put in 89-90 octane, it has worked its way up to deserving that grade octane

I use nothing but Amoco or Mobile1 93 octane because I run nitrous.
I use Castrol GTX 5w-30 oil. I've never had a problem with using regualr oil, so I figure why waste the extra money on synthetic?

Thats suprising actually. I'm not sure why the majority is saying use 87...to be perfectly honest, I've always noticed a nice difference between 87 and 93. I can always notice a slight difference in the power during acceleration. It seems to idle a little smoother with premium as well. Anyone agree with me on this or no?
