Exclamation Honda Recalls 440000 2002 Civics

Just found this out, as of FEB 24, 2004 Honda will begin recalling 440000 2002 Civics this month due to the low-beam terminal on the head light wire harness can overheat which will cause our low beams to fail.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...odel_year=2002

Make: HONDA
Model: CIVIC
Year: 2002
Recall Number: 04V086000

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LOW-BEAM TERMINAL ON THE HEAD LIGHT WIRE HARNESS CAN OVERHEAT AND COULD CAUSE THE LOW BEAMS TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING.

Consequence:
AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF LOW BEAMS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND COUPLER FOR SIGNS OF HEAT DAMAGE. IF HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SWITCH AND COUPLER. IF NO HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND ONE MATING PIN IN THE COUPLER. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

So what do they do with cleared headlights? They still gotta fix them if the harnesses are unmodified right?

hm, i had that problem with hyperwhites, but not with stockers, nor with HID's. i think it's just because 90w bulbs aren't nice on the harnesses anyway :

Well, you see, the thing is that when Honda has a recall, it's usually a minor thing, when Ford has a recall, you're in trouble (used to own a Tempo, stalled everytime you came to a stop, and it was an automatic. Also had a recall on the fuel tank, exhaust system, brakelines, engine mounts, seatbelt tensioners, etc, etc...) You get my point. At least when you buy a Ford, you're guaranteed to have something replaced

Sounds like if you pull the covering off the harness and inspect the whole thing for any heat damage, melting, etc that would be a self-check.

I believe if they recall the part, regardless of headlight modifications, as long as the harness plug that they are recalling hasnt been modified, it should get replaced. Just call your Honda dealer and ask.

Does this count if i'm over my miles? Cause this could help me and my headlights burning out every 4 months. Keep us updated. I made an appointment for tomorrow, but was going to cancel, cause I have no more warranty. For this very discussion.

Since were on the topic of quality......I think that Honda quality has gone down anyone else think that????? Compare previous models to our current model, the quality is lackin so many recalls I've had so many things done to my vehicle I have a library of dealer invoices in my possession. Our interiors are now cheap plastic, before they were all vinyl, our alternators are made by mitsubishi, our ignition systems (dont flame if its no the ignition but i know something electrical is) are made by the German company Siemens.....kinda seems to me like im drivin around a "Frankenstein" For this reason the next car I buy will be a japanese MADE IN JAPAN or european MADE IN GERMANY (prefferably) vehicle shipped on a boat...........<bow>G35 or <bow>M3 here i come
