Hehe. . you would be surprised. Happens all the time at my dad's gas station. People just drive off. Happens probably about once every other month. . Mostly to drivers that have the gas tank on the passanger side. Some of them happen over-night when it's closed and they are using the 24 hr pay at the pump, you'll come in the next morning and you'll be missing a hose. hehe
Most of the time it shows back up. Either the person brings it back and apologizes, or the next morning it just magically appears next to the pump it was ripped out of. .
Sometimes they never come back, but there are replacements kept in the back.
They are actually made to be able to do that, they disconnect really easy. It also makes them easy to change out when you need to replace them.
If you go to the gas station and stretch the hose out as far as it will go, then give it one big heave it'll just pop right out. It's kind of cool how it connects.

A buddy of mine did that the other day in his Celica. The owner of the gas station is trying to charge him with something and make him pay for the cost of repairing the pump.
Still, it was funny. lol.
