"What If..." Honda built an AWD WRX Level Vehicle?
"What If..." Honda built an AWD WRX Level Vehicle?
I live in New England and we've been getting plenty of snow. More and more I think my next car will be AWD. Maybe I'll get a Suburu (WRX-STI) or Mitsubishi (EVO-RS).
But What if Honda was to build an AWD car to compete with them?
I would imagine a nice light AWD Platform with a nice K24 at 240HP. Maybe right around $20,000 - $24,000. It seems to me that the automobile market is ripe for AWD and Honda is frankly missing the boat.
My question is: "How many people would buy something like this?"
I know I would.

They have produced AWD civics before, they have them in thailand, they just would never release one of them in the U.S. Repair costs on a civic would raise to high to be considered an economy car then.
when you concider that the wrx starts at 24,600 and the sti is 31,000. then the evo VII starts at something like 26,000. i don't think it would be 20-24 in america for a 240 hp AWD honda. probably 24-28. and i wouldn't buy it, i don't have a need for it.

u just gotta have cash... i've seen a RWD civic before. doing doughnuts too!! but it just matters how much cash ur willing to put in and the time... like it was said b4, the new crv comes w/ a k24 and AWD i beleive. but its not as easy as just droppin in the engine... the tranny and axles and everything else(maybe even suspension) have to be thought out.
honda was never into the "awd turbo" philosophy as per subaru, mitsubishi, mazda (back in the days of the 323 GTX), toyota (back in the day of the alltrac and GT-FOUR) and even ford (in europe). they've always been known for high-tech, high-revving, light weight cars
Nothing works better than a Chris except a Honda.

^^ true.
Honda doesn't want to follow this fad. Honda also doesn't want to compete in that segment. Those are rally cars turned street car (esp. US versions). Honda's are normally street cars that can do some weekend racing...

only performance car you will see coming from honda is the new NSX. We are a minority in the market, people really dont care about performance cars. Look at toyota excluding the supra model of old (now). They are BLAH reliable cars meant to go from point a to point B in comfort. This is how the average american thinks, we really dont passion autos that much.
This moto has made toyota the secound biggest car company in the world behind Gm. Honda will fallow this market as well, since they lack the funds to reproduce sports cars on all levels with a lack knowlege. They are the smallest of all the car company giants and yet they are the most praised from the majority non-car enthusiasts.
civic is an econo car, not a cheap one though. There is cheeper like the corrola. The Si hatch is detuned to be more driver friendly than the Type R which we all want!!!
truth of the story the only car maker filling the small market nitch is Nissan. They are feeding off of ford mustang customers and X comaro owners. hense they focas attention on radical edgy performance.
while lexus does luxury, infiiniti does sport?
just look at their SUV
Honda wants to bea green peace auto maker and their efforts are focased there as with toyota.
Lets see what more suprises Nissan will bring!
Btu the maxima is hot!

Actually Toyota's primarily #2 because of its extensive organization and information-sharing among its branches. One engineer finds something in California, and Japan will be able to implement it within days.
Most companies, Subaru and Mitsubishi included, build a few low-volume "image" cars (a la Evo and STi) to boost sales of their entire model lineup. If Honda decides to bring over the CTR, expect it to be low volume like the older type R's and such.

honda would never make a turbo car...that would go against their marquis as a motor company. honda is known for their motors, so slapping a turbo on it would make it seem like the civic engine alone is not doing the job (which it isnt from a performance standpoint, but honda will never admit to that).
an awd civic would be nice in the US tho, id think about that one. my next car will most likely be a wrx, or a 2.5 RS, depending on how much i can afford. if honda came out with a k24 awd civic, i would definitely put that on my list. but the chances of that happening are slim. i dont think theres a market for awd with the people that buy civics, being an economy car and all.

That two engine idea has already been done by the owner of a tiburon. And if you stick one in drive and the other in reverse you get some crazy burn-outs. His car was part of the Sport Compact Car Challenge a while back.
