Which is Better? : Civic 98 or Civic 02
My family currently has a Civic 98 LX Sedan and my Civic 02 EX Sedan and my younger sister is growing and we're deciding on which car to give her.
I want my sister to have the reliable one out of the two
Civic 98 LX
- built in Japan
Civic 02 EX
- built in Canada
Which has a better build.. and may last longer?
From what I'm hearing.. everyone's having problems with the new generation engines after the warranty period?

it's funny you mention this thread... my sister has a 98' civic ex 2dr and has over 150,000 miles and she hasn't had any problems with it at all. she basically just got oil changes, new tires, a little tune up here and there and that's it. personally.... as far as looks go, i like the (98') 6th gen better. as long as you get an oil change every 3000 miles. tune up every 15,000. rotate tires every 6,000. they both should easily last over 200,000 miles. reliability is one reason i bought my 03' civic. but then again some people don't take care of their cars.

Of course the '02 is going to last longer and most likely be more reliable. However, I wouldn't give my sister my new car. She will be perfectly fine in the '98. They are both hondas as already stated.

Well whatever... The japanese built ones last longer. Always have, always will. I had 3 Nissans, All Japan built... never rusted, never rattled, never broke anything. I've got 1 US built Honda, its a piece of **** in comparison. Look back at the Japanese built Civics... how do you have all these EFs, EGs and CRXs still running around with 200 or more thousand miles on them? They were built like tanks in Japan. Soon as Honda moved things to the US, they started cranking out the same crap cars as everyone else. I don't think the new ones will last as long, regardless of how well you care for them, they're just not as good as they used to be. Americans just build **** because thats what they do to get money. The Japanese do it and take pride in their work... thats motivation to build something with quality.

all I gotta say is that my 88 accord felt stronger as far as the chassis than my 02 civic. My 02 civic feels like a plastic piece of crap compared to my 88 accord. I feel that my 00 civic si felt stronger. just my .02
