Question hmmm Civic EX for a Civic SI??

Hey there,
I was just trying to get second opinions on this issue. Basically right now I'm owning a 2002 Civic EX 4 dr...yes 4 dr! grrr. anyways long story. But I saw a trade up for a 2002 Civic SI. Well it's at 25000 miles and was purchased in July of 2002. Mine was purchased in late October of 2002 and is currently at about 15000 miles. So far I've only scratched my front bumper as far as damage goes. The Civic Si has a dent in the front hood from someone who ramped into her while she was parked. She is selling the car for $14000 though. Both mine and her car are accident free and been on regular maintainance. I have not checked out the car yet and all of this information are just based on an ad.

Would you trade for it straight up? Have some cash back? Or what? Feel free to drop your 2 cents! Thanks a lot!!!

Do a compression test, check for unusual wear/tear and then negotiate for a straight trade. I think your value and her's are about equal.

You need a special tool you can buy in a kit. It's got a gauge and a fat nozzle on the end of it. The tool measures the compression cyl by cyl to determine if there is any loss in compression.

Also, do a vacuum pressure test. Same sort of thing, but on the vacuum lines.

No, it's actually not that easy of a procedure and it's been years since I've done it. You have to take each sparkplug out one at a time and do the test once for each cyl, taking notes and comparing each with the others. FOr example: an 8 cyl requires 8 different readings. Then you compare the results to see if any one chamber is ****ed up.

Don't worry about it..... It's more for older cars anyway. Any Civic with less than 60,000 miles will be fine I'm sure.

yeah hmmm...i'll try n look it up and read instructions. hmmm but basically the readings should be about the same for each cyclinder. i think i should be able to do some research out there for reference on a standard reading though. thanks for the response anyways.

the thing is the i checked the blue book retail and my was at a higher value. probably due to the low milleage tho. i dunno. well performance wise...no doubt i'd agree Si's would rate higher against an EX.

I test drove a Si yesterday with 30000 miles on it and it was slower than my Civic that has I/H/E I was not impressed at all but thats IMO, I just think the SI's look to much like a dome.

Kelley's blue book says u can get around $13,000 for ur civic. But it also says that the civic si would be pretty much the same price too. So i would def trade. You get a nicer interior and a more pwerful engine for the same price.

$14k for an Si that's dented? Around here they are going sooo cheap, but perhaps not by you I would trade if you could, since I don't think yours would grab $14K either.

Dealerships in Michigan were selling NEW 2002 Si at the end of 2002 for $14,800. So whenever I hear anyone talk about buying a used one for near that price I always shake my head.

there is one up here for 12k with 30000 miles in pretty nice condition but I am sure you could talk them down to about 11500 or so maybe less but.

I was truly shocked to see how much the value had plummeted for a CIVIC! I guess it's just the new styling that turned most people off

Yah but I think the coupes and sedans are still holding value better in comparison to the Si.
