Echo > Civic?
Echo > Civic?
I was just browsing the Toyota website and it says on it that the Echo Hatchback (present year) has a curb weight of 2080 pounds (3dr, MT). Now, with a 1.5L engine and 108hp (@ 6000rpm) and 105 ft.lbs of torque (@ 4200 rpm), is it just me or could this car totally take a Civic DX, EX and maybe even an Si?
I sure wish my car was newer

If I had the money to just do stupid stuff, I'd buy an Echo and put a Celica GT-S engine in it.
In the real world though, with equal drivers, I would think it would lose... simply because the Echo driver wouldn't be able to see as he was hanging his head in shame.

its funny that i just came across this, cause it happend to me today we were at a light and i was in the right lane and he was in the left facing downhill, and i wasnt even try to race really, but i noticed he was trying to get ahead of me, so i kept up and shifted only around 5k or so maybe higher and i just let him cause i knew he wanted to get over, but it would have been easy if i was really trying , o i have an ex with aem v2 intake and thats it
I wish I was asian

HP and weight ratio isnt the only thing that needs to be looked at here. What are the gear ratios? where is this HP coming in the powerband? is it at the top where the redline is? could it make more power if the redline was pushed back? who knows.

ok the 3door or 4 door echo has nothing on the civic, dx or whatever, it will never catch up. now the new echo hatch back. its a tiny car, super tiny, looks more like an RCA car then a toyota, it might be able to hold up with a DX but i am not sure, as was said before, there are too many things to put into consideration.
The echo hatchback, isnt that bad of a car. if you are on a budget, and need something to just get you around and takes almost no gas and is reliable, then the Echo hatchback is perfect, but if your looking for a fast, luxery. nice looking car, then look somewhere else.

I don't get this comparison to the DX...as if the DX is the slowest of the Civic bunch. It's been proven that the LX is the slowest, because it's heavier than the DX with the same HP. The EX is even heavier, which negates some of the extra horsepower, so it's no speed demon either.

I dont know, when i say DX, i just mean the slowest civic, i assume that it is the DX.
Even if the power to weight ratio is better, the echo is not geared like the civic. It wouldn't have the gearing to outaccelerate it, mainly because this is a environment friendly car. Similar to a Metro.

And if I had the chance to buy another car back then, I'd have waited and gotten the Si, not an EX.

on that note, there was this moron on the echo forums who is the biggest ricer ever.
he'd post kill stories about owning S2000's and Z3's and WRX's etc, etc in races. He'd say his lightly modified echo could outhandle all of them. it was nuts. he thought that his echo was a viper killer.

On a side note the Vitz/Echo has a lot of parts in Japan to make it go fast. That's one of the reasons that Toyota chose that engine for the heavier/funky looking Scions.

i will never forget how funny that was I'm not trying to arguring with you guys but toyota did develop a turbo and a supercharge for echo and it's damn fast with it's light weight, in HK and Japan is quite popular for people to mod echo and ****ing fast that you can't expected. But if we say not a drag race, echo's high height is it's problem to make a shape turn and for sure our car would win in this way...however, compare the speed echo vs civic we are still has a long way to go.
