I can't believe this!!!

Okay, so my dad is looking at buying a new car, and he finally has it down to two cars. The new 04 Acura TL or the 04 Toyota Highlander. ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!?!?! The TL is the obvious choice, since he said that he wants to spend 33K on a new car. The TL is 33, and the Highlander is almost 37K!! Okay, what do I need to tell him to get over this dumb hump of his!!!

Utterly flabragasted.

LMAO....great adjectives!!!

Just tell him that you'd rather drive the Highlander and if he gets that, you'll be the one driving it. That way he gets the TL, thinking that you won't bug him, and voila...bug the hell out of him and you get to drive it....make sense? Reverse Psychology...kinda, lol.

Just visit some websites and compare the two cars. The TL imo is the best car out of those two. But since HE'S buying it... But then also think about; "Do we need an SUV in the house?" You probably have only cars right? How about having a SUV around for a change? To ship cargo and other junk. Gotta give it some thought.

The TL is a car and Highlander is a SUV right? haha

Oh well...good luck!

37K for a Highlander?? I don't think they're that expensive. Maybe you meant a Sequoia.

yeah, it is just the civic and whatever my dad gets, but we have lived with 4 sedans in the family now for 4 years, and haven't hit any problems with it. FattyMC3, I have test driven them both, and have expressed my LOVE for the new TL. So that won't work, he knows that I don't want to drive that Highlander, and I would take the TL everytime i went out. ESPECIALLY at night!!! I am so obsessed with those HIDs!!!

Pat

Oh heck yeah, they are 36 for one without nav. and 38 for one with it. I got 37 by building one without the navigation, and then putting on a couple of dealer add-ons.
They went up in price for 04 because they now come with a third row of seats, and Nav is an option, and also a new 5 speed automatic instead of a 4 speed. When you get the limited, you get the third row, 5 speed automatic, tow package, and the other things.

One problem with a TL ..... FWD. If you read in the new car and driver it even says that they really can't put that much power down through the front wheels. If I was you I would tell your dad to look at a 3series or a IS300. Rear Wheel drive, it can handle the power MUCH more effeciently.

Oh, and I wouldn't own the new TL because of the simple fact that it is front wheel drive, I'll take the Lexus.

-TL has better gas mileage.
-TSX (the one lower) won best car of the year on CNN Money, and they mention that if you want a bit more luxury, take the TL.
-TL JUST restyled
-TL will get more people to go WOWA!
-unless you guys go camping a lot or something, or drive in the mud a lot, or need a lot of space in the car... TL is the obvious choice TO ME.

I have already tried the IS300 or BMW 3 series

They are both too small.

And no, we don't do a lot of camping or mudding, or anything like that.

Highlander is also FWD unless it is the 4WD. Even then, unless you're going to use the SUV for its intended purpose, don't buy it. But $37k? No. The most is $31 and that's MSRP.

This is such an odd question... The real question should be, does he want a car or an SUV? If he makes that decision then he already knows which make to get.

I've driven the Highlander and they're pretty nice, although I know you can find them for cheaper than 37k. There's actually a decent amount of aftermarket parts for it too. I'd go with the Highlander, but that's only because I'd rather have an SUV than a car...

ah the Highlander is so ugly, and NOT fun to drive. The price range is less than 35K and must have 4 doors, and not be a rear wheel drive car. Thanks.

Now here's somebody else thinking rather than giving opinion.

Dood. . . . seriously. Your dad needs to first decide on either a car or an SUV. Don't try and push him into a TL just because you like it. What makes you think you'll be driving HIS car that much, anyway? If you really want to be cool, discuss with him the ramifications of getting either a car or SUV, and how that'll impact the way it's used in your household.

Honestly. . . . I love how every thread on this board turns into "I think HIS 7th Gen is the dopest" or "I would get blah-blah-blah . . . . if I won the lottery." lease:

Well it looks like everyone just says what they would get and are not answering how to get the dad to buy the TL. If I were Pat, I would sit my dad down with all the printed specs, options, and engineering traits. I would then point out all the pros and cons of each. Then I would talk to him how unless you need to pull stuff, need a lot of cargo area, or need to haul a lot of kids having the 3rd row, it isn't needed. Then point out the TL has more luxury designs, better gas mileage, is more comfortable to drive, is easier to park, keep clean, and doesn't feel like a beached whale to drive. Especially if his dad has had cars before, that is big in saying that a car is always a more comfortable choice. Just my 2 cents.

MAKE HIM GET THE TL NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO!!!!

My mom just got a 3.2TL and it's awesome. I tried talking her into letting me bring it back to college but she wouldn't. Just make him drive one.......without a salesman in the back seat if you get my drift, he should be sold.
