mark up on 04 vic?
i went to a dealership today, testdrove the 04 ex coupe 5m, thought it was a great car. Felt solid, no interior rattles what so ever, smooth, build quality was 1000 times better than what i expected, features, etc were all wonderful.... but on top of the MSRP, there was a 2000 dollar dealer mark-up, which threw me off. Is that dealership bullshit or are the 04s rare or something?

Forget that. How much were they asking for 04 civics? Just go to other honda dealer and check it out. That dealer is asking too much. 2000 dealer mark up on 04 civic?? 04 civcs arent even rare. There are at least 20 04 civics at local honda dealer around my house.

It's the dealer markup sticker. Most of them do it to get more money from a new or rare car. The 04 civic is an updated bodystyle, not a new car design. They're just trying to pad their profit.
The ONLY exception is if there is actually something that they added to the car to make it more desirable or easier to sell. For example, upgraded wheels, spoilers, sunroof visor, fog lights..etc. If you can point at it or buy one in the parts dept, it's a legitimate add-on. Beware of high priced add-ons like spoilers and visors that you can buy MUCH CHEAPER yourself after purchasing the car. I remember when the 01 came out, they tried to charge over $700 for a painted rear spoiler. You can buy them now, painted, on ebay for less than $200. Be a smart shopper.
Stuff like undercoating or dealer prepping is pure bullsh*t. They clean and prep every car they receive. Undercoating is done at the factory for most car companies.
A fair price for a new car is around $500 over TRUE INVOICE. Check edmunds or kbb for that invoice price.

Go to another dealership, I got my 04 cheaper then they offered it cuz I didn't have the credit for it, but I signed the papers, and they sold it to me anyways, they fuked up and had to slash the price so my credit would cover the amount, it was great... its a dealership thing for sure.
