one of my buddies has an 04 WRX, all decked out, upgraded intercooler, boost controller etc, which were professionally done- Last week he was driving casually in the streets when his piston blew out of the engine block randomly and almost tore a whole in the hood. Be very careful with choosing aftermarket parts if you are planning to get a subaru. Just a little word of advice =)

Something besides the piston must have gone "up" in the engine bay of your friend's WRX.
Sounds like his boost controller isn't doing its job.

Go for the Subbie. They're no more difficult to mod than a Honda or Toyota. . . . just different.

I'd say stick with the Civic. The Impreza is kinda heavy and the 2.2L doesn't make that much power and isn't very fuel economical either. But if you need all wheel drive and its handling, then yeah maybe.

Huh?
137 HP and 2700 lbs is worse than a 7th gen?
At least it's got more torque! (145 ft-lbs)
The 2.2 will respond better to mods than the Civic's 1.7. No question about it.
However, spend a little more money and find yourself a 2.5 RS with 165 HP. Basically, it's an AWD alternative to an Si.

Nothing works better than a Chris except a Honda.

I wouldn't reccommend it. You could sell your car to them but don't buy one from them. They REALLY jack up the prices... Everyonce in a while there is a bargain or two, but this just doesn't seem like one of them. I was considering an old Accord a while back but I didn't buy it because I could have got a new car for the price that they were asking, plus they have higher interest rates because they are used.
If you want it, go for it! Subaru's are very nice cars. They handle well, look nice and have the same capabilities as any other import car in terms of modding. You may not get the nice gas mileage you have now, though.
Just be careful chosing products when/if you start modding. Don't go cheap.

My girlfriend's 1991 Legacy just turned over 200K over a month ago. Engine still runs strong, and very little has been needed to maintain it over the years.

what is all this talk with subarus not being reliable? in my area a lot of russian people have early-mid 90's subarus which are beatin bad and are still moving. after all the good things i heard about subaru's reliability (from people who actually owned subarus for a long time) i'm very surprised to hear that they arnt reliable...
