That was on the news in several states mostly Florida I heard. Because the dealers are too lazy to check for proper ID.

One thing you can use is black electrical tape. In California at least it's not illegal to cover your vin its just illegal to remove it. Good Luck!

No other VIN location is visible while the car is parked except the one on the dash. But yes, the VIN is on every body panel of the car, etched into the firewall, and a couple other places too.

Get an alarm that when you put the key in the door, it goes off, that is what mine does. I thought it would be illegal to cover your VIN number. It's there for a reason.

Gay, if someone really wanted to steal your car, hiding your vin where the dash is isn't going to stop them.
There are many other ways.

yea but that's one way to steal your car. and if u hide ur vin number it'd confound the efforts right? so therefore i don't think it's gay. plus it takes like a minute to cover it up anyway.

just wondering, if a guy takes the time to get a key made with the immobilizer code correct and everything, wont that take time. and for that to work, hes gonna have to monitor you all the time to see where you go so he could steal your car when youre not there. i think its just not the best way to steal a car if you had to. the process is just tooo long. also i dont hink the current generation of civics have any "hot" parts on it.

Ya don't put the tape on the _outside_ silly. Noone can open your car and remove the tape if it's _inside_

My old roommate used to be a repo man, he said his favorite method of jacking a car was to get the VIN and have a key made. If all else failed he would pound a screwdriver into the ignition or simply tow it.

wow I never knew other people did that. Back when I volunteered at the hospital, most of the cars in the doctors parking deck covered theres. So I started doing it with all the cars in my family.

I used to put a slip of paper that I wrote "Please steal someone else's car. I worked hard for mine" over it. Didn't stop door denters, and I think it attracts attention, so now I just put a piece of black construction paper there in big public lots (mall, groceries, or more 'urban' areas).
