Fake GSR
Heres the story, my buddy just bought an Integra which he claimed as a GSR. So I took a look at it the other day and I noticed a few things. First the tach redlined at 7 grand and something if I remember correctly and when he popped the hood there was no DOHC writing on the valve cover. So when I asked him if it was really a GSR he said he was just waiting for me to figure that out
. He then claimed that it was a trim-line GSR. I say :zbsflag: what about you?
Sometimes, I can see right through myself ...

Eh, it might be a GSR.
If I recall correctly, the GSR still didn't have a DOHC valve cover, but it's still DOHC. Also, the motor in it is a B18C1 iirc. Also, if it's a GSR and he hasn't replaced the taillights, they should be all red, including the turn signal. That's all I can think of that will tell you if it's a GSR or not. Someone with a bit more knowledge of Integras, please doublecheck me.

on the front of the engine (towards the front of the car) and slightly left of midline on the engine is the engine code (engraved sideways in black metal). I have a friend with an LS, and it is B18B. Just look; a GSR should say B18C.

Ok heres a few things you can look for to distinguish a GSR from other models
8000 RPM redline, no 8k = no GSR
Only manual, auto = no GSR
Should have a black valve cover with DOHC VTEC wrtten on it, no B18C1 = no GSR
Im sure I'll think of some more later
But it sounds to me like your friend got him an Integra LS. 7000 RPM redline and a black valve cover with nothing written on it.

things to look for in a gsr
1. the badge behind car....DOHC VTEC
2. red line at 8000
3. PREMIUM FUEL ONLY
4. white valve cover(middle stripe) (above it will say"dohc vtec")
5. engine code B18C1

gsr will have a dohc vtec badge on the back
it also has a stock spoiler
the tach should redline at 8
it should say premium fued on the speedometer
there should be a stock black strut bar in the engine bay
if its a 98+ there should be 6 spoke rims
in the back, there should be stock rear strut bar
the engine should be black, with a silver valve cover
the engine should be B18C1
it should also only come in manual
the exhaust tip is also diff, and is angled
