Why is this car so much more?
2003 Toyota
Celica GT - $17,905
2,425lbs
140hp
125tq
Celica GT-S - $22,570
2,425lbs
180hp
130tq
MR-2 - $25,130
2,195 lbs
138hp
125tq
The MR-2 has less power than both celicas, but is way more expensive. I assume the GT-S is faster, yes? Why is the MR-2 so much? It's 230lbs less than the celica, but does 230lbs less account for $3,000 extra?
I was thinking about getting an MR-2 (in a year or so) until I found out how little power they have for the price.
Or am I totally missing something here?

Dont knock the MR2 Spider too much......
Its much more manuverable then the celica... Example of this, IN SCCA Solo 2 compition, the MR2-Spider runs in C-stock where the Celica GT-s tops out at D-Stock and the Celica GT is down in G-Stock.
so as far as performance, it goes MR2-Spider, GT-s and then GT.
in a straight line the GT-s may beable to out run the MR2-Spider but get in to some corners and the MR2 is going to pounce all over it.
check out this cornering!!!

I think the idea is that you dont need horsepower if you don't have to slow down for the corners.

MR-2 does look awesome even though I don't really like convertibles. But, it might still be cool.
They used to make one that came with a turbo and one that came with a supercharger a while ago, right? Are there aftermarket turbos for the new ones now?

I think the price difference would have to do with the fact that it's a convertible; they tend to cost more. The Mazda 6 also has more horsepower and much bigger than the Miata, but the Miata's price starts off a lot higher ($18,600 vs. $21,800).

MR-2's aren't girl cars. I don't think I've ever seen a girl drive one. I have seen mostly guys drive Miata. Haha Celicas are kinda girl cars but I see mostly guys driving the new ones.

As far as I know there are a few aftermarket turbo kits available for the MR-S. These kits are for the Japanese version but can be ordered through importers. Apex-i makes a kit and so does SARD.
I believe that TRD is working on either a turbo or supercharger kit. It might even be out. Too lazy to check right now. I do know TRD sells a complete suspension kit for the car and it's supposed to kick a**.
If the car wasn't the size of a shoebox I'd look into one. They look great in black, especially with the Veilside kit as someone mentioned above.

I remember someone posted a linked to a video where 2 turbo Silvias and a MR-S and S2000 raced on a track.
It was supposed to be 2.0L N/A's vs. Turboed monsters.
The MR-S had a GTS engine swap.
And it OWNED the Silvias, especially on the twists and turns because it had no need to brake much. Crazy handling

I am pretty sure a manual EX can take out an auto Celica hands down....and most likely the GTS also if its an auto
