would you do this??

Hey,
My friend's selling his 2002 RSX type-S for 23k. His car is in prime condition, he's got an AEM intake, invidia exhaust, new cams (forgot what they were.. i think skunk 2's or something), and a pretty louddd system. He's also got the type-R wing and the JDM style blackhousing headlights. I've been talking to him, and he's asking me if I'd be willing to sell him my car. He's still paying off his loan, which has around 13k left. So, he wants to trade cars, give me 10k for my car (that's what edmund priced it at) and I'll take over his loan payments. Would you go for this deal? I really like Type-S's and i just love his car. But, I'm still not sure if I should do it cuz' i'll be having to get a weekend job in order to make payments on it and to fix it up some more...

Thx
Axel

edit: my car's a 2002 civic LX coupe

Make sure you get a written contract signed by both parties, and notorized.
If he won't sign the contract, then don't do it!

so you get a type-s for 13000? hm..... i would think about that carefully. basicly, if you like ur civic you can invest you $$ into it and have a sweet ride thats fugging fast....

i would probably not do it..just cuz i dont have the cash lol...but i think the civics look a lil nicer , especially if its as fast as a rsx-s

LOL. A Civic with I/H/E wouldn't even touch a stock RSX-S. See if you can talk him down a little bit if you insist on trading. And remember - modding a car lowers its value.

i think he means with the 13,000 he COULD make his civic as fast as or faster than a type-s

That's how I understood it. I think it's really up to you. I would take it if I didn't need a sedan. I might ask though if he could lower his price... but it sounds like a good deal to me.

Ahh, it all seems so clear to me now.

True, with that 13K, he could make one NICE Civic. OR, he could take that money and buy a different car that's faster than both if that makes him happy.

well the thing is.. I'm going to be taking over his loan payments. So I will be paying in monthly installments. meaning that I dont have the 13k upfront as of now. If I did have the 13k upfront i'd keep the vic for sure, but then I dont want to wait for like a long time to be able to afford stuff that I could do with 13k... too much saving for me.. lol

I would go for it, but that's just me. I mean, because you said you'd have to get a weekend job in order to make payments. And if you think it's worth it, then I say go for it .

Also gotta think about insurance because it's going to raise a little, if not a lot.

Yukonart will become famous soon enough
Go for it. . . . the $13,000 you end up paying while assuming the loan will instantly yeild you a much faster car. Not only that, but think of all the companies out there who are making RSX-specific performance parts that may never be produced for the Civics. Comptech, anyone?

Not only that. . . but you get leather, 6-speed, auto up/down windows, a nicer sunroof, 4 wheel disc brakes, more engine to start with when you consider further mods. . . and read: NO SWAP = FEWER PROBLEMS.

If you have the means, I would highly recommend this deal.

talk him down cause if he looked on edmunds and found that your car was worth 10, 000 well his car is wroth 19, 000 or less, but i understand its the payments he has left but his price is to high so have him throw someone in for it , but i would do it if i could make the payments and so forth and wanted that car when they first came out but i got the vic

it's not just 19,000.. cuz im going to buy his car with all his mods he has made. I know that dealerships will give him less money if he'd sell it to them because of the mods.. but for me the modz are nice

He's in irvine right now.. like 1++ hour drive there. No pics yet.. It's a pearl white rsx type-S with a Type-R wing and JDM style blackhousing headlights. Looks pretty clean, but then I'm gonna try doing stuff to make it a lil sexier hahaha.. maybe add a lip kit or something. I'll get pix asap though

Is the reason he's trying to sell it because he can't handle the monthly payments??? Don't get me wrong RSX's are really hot, but struggling w/the payment's are nuts. Plus why would he demote himself from a rsx to a civic? I'd say stick w/the civic.

Yah, I can understand your friend wanting a more fuel efficient car. I averaged 41 mpg with my Civic, and now I average about 31 mpg with the RSX-S.

I say go for the rsx. The civic is nice and all, but if you want performance, than go with the rsx. If you want a little show to, I say buddy club all around. That would look great with the black style headlights. I would get a rsx if I could afford it and insurance, but that is another story.
