BMW 5 series or MB E-class
Which would you rather have, BMW 545i
Interior
Engine
Performance
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 4.4 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 325 hp
Max Horsepower: 6100 rpm Torque: 330 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 3600 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 37.5 ft
Or a Mercedes Benz E500
Interior
Engine
Performance
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 5 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 302 hp
Max Horsepower: 5600 rpm Torque: 339 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 2700 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 37.4 ft.
Both are around the same price, the bimmer is like 55gs and the and the Benz is like 57 grand.
If I had to pick one it would be tough....
EDIT: Actually I would pick the 545i because of the manual.

I love BMW, I've worked on them since I was old enough to hold a wrench, but I absolutly Do NOT like the new body styling of the 5 or 7 series. So, with this choice, E-class unfortunaltly....Looks much better. but for performance 5 series. Cant get a mercedies with a manual transmission........
This is the 5 series I like... 540i sport, with a 6 speed manual transmission.
Drove one, and all I could think of while I was cruzing a 80mph down the freeway in 4th gear was..... "WOW, I have 2 more gears to go through..."

Shame on BMW for Hiring, Audi and Volvo designers, they have lost their nich in design. the new 5 series looks like an audi not a BMW. and the new 7 looks like a Volvo.

I hate BMWs shifter... the throw is a mile long, but due to the fact that the car is 1/2 sports, 1/2 bling and the Benz is only available granny style, I'm going with the 545i and a stick. Until the M6 comes out.

I love the old M6...
Little trivia: the e30 m3's engine, is the M6's -2 cylinders......
M6 = Inline 6, M3 = Inline 4.
If it were a BMW or Mercedes i had to choose from i would opt for BMW everytime. Seems to me that BMW puts more emphasis on driving dynamics than luxury. To me BMW and Honda seem to be modeled after each other because both companies are innovators in engine technology with their high RPM and HP/liter. And Mercedes and Toyota are modeled after each other because both have cars that always feel solid and well built, but are more geared towards driving comfort.
