You must be driving it pretty hard to get below 20 mpg. I get about 28-26 mpg out of a full tank. Get around 360 miles from a full tanks use. I have 17 inch wheels with 205/45 tires. Kind of weighs the car down causing bad mileage I think.
You're gas station must be jacking you because our gas tank only holds 13.2 gallons...haha. Theres also a few threads about this, so you can do some searches to see what others posted awhile back. Also that fuel cleaner stuff works pretty good and does save you money. I was getting over 30 mpg using those fuel cleaner stuff, but they only last for a month.

i dont drive hard,, ive done many test -- about the fuel tank capacity it says 14.2 on my window sticker.... hmm i donno -- maybe resetting ecu? ive been shifting under 4500 every shift except for those occasional need for speed shifts on the highway
EX gets 29-33. i keep extremely accurate records of gas milage, date, location, everything. best i've ever gotten was 33.9 or something. i should be getting better than this just like everyone else. Nobody ever gets what the magazines/dealerships/manufacturers say you will get. 11.9 gallon tank, 5 speed, 6TH GEN!

I used to get 22-24mpg, but I'm only at 200 miles and the tank is nearly empty!! I have done nearly everything you should to get good gas mileage. Some of these include-
1) correct tire pressure
2) regular use of fuel system cleaner
3) oil change
4) air filter upgrade (K&N OEM)
5) Driving below 4K rpms
The car is mostly stock. Don't know what the problem is, and the dealer says it's normal. HA.

At least I'm doing better than the person who started this thread. Actually I used to get 25mpg when I had my AEM intake on. It was too loud so I took it off for the roadtrip, but it looks like it cost me gas mileage somehow. My car is broken...oh well.

33-34 city....36+ highway
DX 5sp, Densos, K&N drop in.
If you're getting less than 30mpg and you've done nothing seriously bad to the motor to justify it, take it to the dealer. Because your car is seriously FK'd up.

aww, too bad; i was gonna suggest you check your tire pressure
. i had my car for something like 6 months before i checked my tire pressure the first time  (haha, yeah, pretty stupid, i know). until then, i had been getting around 25 mpg for city driving (it's all i do). i expected more. anyway, it turns out my tires were something like 9 psi too low!!! haha. so i filled them up the right amount before i went on a short road trip (so all highway driving), and ended up getting 37 mpg! woohoo. but since, i've only been doing city driving again, and i'm down to around 30 mpg now...
by the way, i have an auto EX

That is just unbeilevable....gearbox and 2k3HonCivicEX you need to go get your car checked at the dealership....obviously there is something wrong with your cars. I usually get 26 mpg riving on the redline of my car....and usually i get 34mpg if i am driving good...the best my car has seen was 40 mpg in the mountains on the way to Lake Tahoe by my dad...so my advice is go to your dealer and ask them to completly look at car cause i needs it...good luck with them

On one full tank of gas, that lasted about 2 and a half weeks approximately
700km which is about 437.5miles. I know it seems too good to be true, but this is all highway.

I'm so jealous. I'll be taking it to a new dealership soon now that I've moved. And my only "performance" mod is a rear section muffler. I doubt that would cause it.
I get average of 26-27. Im hoping when my exhuast gets installed tomorrow it doesnt drop too much...
I dont baby it, but i dont beat the crap outta it. Id say average driving.
The best ive gotten was about 31 and that was driving my car the hardest its ever been driven on a mountain run for like 3-4 hours. GO FIGURE!!!!!

I round about 40 mpg because I mostly travel highway to school, and other places like the mall and stuff (everything in-town sucks). I only have to gas up onece a week (Friday after school is my Gas day) and I usually only need 12/13 gallons to fill the tank at the end of the week. I think I do around 400 miles during a busy week.
My engine's "super-stock" so nothing should be affecting gas consumption. I'm not sure but my 18s+tires seemed lighter than stock steelies also. I tend not to carry extra weight (passengers, system, trunk load). And I don't drive my automatic "hard".

And Im a dork, and I take in account for my rim size. It throws me off 4.18% so i multiply my odometer reading by 0.0418 and then subtract that number from my odometer reading. And THEN divide by the gallons I pumped.
And YES, my friends who have seen me do this make fun of me. LOL

I get about 30-32 in the city. and 35-44 on the freeway. Yes I said 44, it happened only twice. but it happened. I think it was because the gas i used had ethonol in it. My car was packed full of ****. the only engine mod, is a K&N drop in filter.
'02 EX coupe A/T and about 75% highway driving during an average week gets me about 34 mpg. Most of that is light load on the throttle which shifts automatically around 3k. I generally only have about 225 pounds in the car including me.
I've got a Flowmaster exhaust, Eibach suspension and 15" Civic 5 split spoke wheels. It's running on a fresh factory air filter and has 14.5k miles. I'm going to put a K&N filter in it in a few k miles.

I was about to say that wheel and tire size might have something to do with the high mpg claims. Assuming many have 205/40/17 which would show you more miles than a standard car, but looks like I'm wrong. Alot of you have mid 35 mpg. Mine is about a 29 to 30 mpg car.
I read in Consumer's Report that the 2001 civic did not have as good mileage as the later made civics. That could be a possibility for the difference on this forum too. I would be happy if my car did mid 30s for mileage b/c Honda does claim 30/38 city/highway.
Oh, forgot to mention that I drive an EX auto, incase any of you want to compare more spefically and the Honda claim about mpg is for an EX auto.
