So I have the day off today and am running errands. I pass by the Subaru dealer and they've got some STI's out. Cool, my chance to take one for a ride. NOT I get out and start talking with a sales guy (what a real, well you know) telling me stories of how he got it up to 160's on a track blah blah blah and how this is the kind of car that's very hard to handle. I mention that we've bought 3 cars from this dealer and his reply is that he's sold 3 and the dealer has already sold 8 and none of them have been on test drives. My response that's a shame cause I wanted to compare it to the EVO I drove (I lied) cause I'm in the market for one. He didn't care. So I left.
Pulling out of the dealership a freekin STI blows by me. I hit it and catch up. The guy has a huge grin on his face (prob in late 20's) and turns off. I pull into my next stop (errand of the day). Only to see an EVO parked. I get out and look it over. Man are these things ugly up close. Three high school kids come out, "Bet you wish you had one of em huh?" I look up and don't even bother. Thinking in my head, ya if my parents had money too, I would of had a car in high school, hope you kill yourself.
Sorry just need to vent or something. aaaggrrrr

Indeed. . . those are the dealerships (rather salespeople) you walk away from. If you truly do like the dealership from past experience, walk in there, ask to speak to the manager. Tell the manager your history with the dealership. Then, ask the manager for a salesperson who's actually interested in selling you a car.
I can almost guarantee he'll get you someone with a much better attitude, immediately. As far as test drives. . . you may be SOL for a while. Even at the best Subbie dealership around here I had to luck out to test drive one. (Had a trade since the dealership messed up the roof on one when it came in for it's first oil change.) I was able to drive a nicely-broken-in Java Black Pearl model, mainly because of my timing last month.
Now if you're not actually intending on buying one in the near future, then sorry . . . I could understand their not allowing test drives, especiallyl if you're not really in the market. And if you ARE truly in the market. . . . dood, test driving will not be necessary. Just go and get one.

Sadly the Evo 8 is currently whoopin the snot outta the STi in A-Stock Autocross......and the Evo 8 just gets better when you modify it for E-Street Prepaired. It just seems to be the better car. Oh well, Not that im going to get either any time soon, Im saving for a House and a Lotus Elise.
Give the STi a while to grow into itself here and then look at them. Right now the demand is mostly me toos and richie riches... too bad because there is alot better cars for that kind of money out there to be had that are quite test driveable.

The Evo's not quite the daily driver the STi is. . . but it does seem to handle better. STi, almost NO turbo lag vs. the Evo's typical lag. And the Evo's a little less money, AND comes with a stereo, stock.
Mostly comes down to personal preference. They're similar, but different cars. To debate which one is better would take days. . . it's been done on every Mitsu and Subbie board in existence. . . and there's still no getting around personal preference.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong with either car.

evos are horrid from any distance. an sti looks intimidating from far away and insanely tough looking from up close.
I can't stand it when an sti pulls up next to me at the popular gas station in our town. Not that I hate, but because I'd rather have one of those. I usually grab a something to read and ignore that there's fabulous cars around me.
yeah it must be great having parents that silver-spoon feed you. But just remember, maybe they worked hard for it in their studies, and on the dean's list or high honors, or do things very unselfishly (like volunteering, tutoring etc). Those kids deserve it. I remember when I was in 12th grade rocking a new (and the only) 7th gen around, people used to think I was spoiled. Little did they know, I made over 20 hours/week at my job, I paid for it with my savings, and that it was a DX in the first place.

BUT I don't like how the sti's intercooler is hidden:
The front mount looks so much better. Don't call it a sleeper, because anyone who knows anything about the STi should know what it's capable of.

Indeed. . . one must first understand the differences in intercoolers, though.
Front mount:
Can be larger (to feed larger turbo)
Easily shown-off OR conceled
Turbo lag in most applications
Top mount:
Smaller. . . usually, but cheaper to replace
Not prone to getting messed-up in minor front-end accident
Very little to no turbo lag (MUCH shorter piping)
Not easily hidden as the hood must allow for sufficient airflow
Guess it all depends on if you want looks over performance, etc.
However, there are PLENTY of FMIC kits for the STi already.
Grab the hood off an 04 Impreza and you've got NO scoop. hehe

EVO 8 is just way too damn cheap inside other than seats.... I thought WRX interior was horrible at first, now I take it back, having seen EVO8s....... no better than $10,000 Lancer's..... that's a shame.
Still, If i had 40k to blow, my money will go towards EVO8, only because up here in Canada we wont get EVOs... not until the total redesign, which means waiting til EVO9 or 10..
I love the STI though....... looks so damn manacing..... although every 8 out of 10 STis I've seen so far, have been driven by idiots weaving in and out of traffics etc etc..

i worked at a subaru dealership as a salesperson this summer. Every STi currently on a dealer's lot has already been spoken for, so you wont be able to test drive one. No matter how much of a previous customer you are, they wont let u take one out for a drive. As far as the salesman's comment about taking it up to 160, its probably not true. Subaru actually let salespeople go out to Phoenix and test drive the STi on the track with professional British race car drivers. Ive seen the video and its awesome......they take corners so well. Personally i didnt get to drive the STi because i was fairly new at the dealership, but its an overall great car.
