I have been looking at some new, older cars and have narrowed it down to these. I know some of them are older than the others, but that’s just so I might be able to find one, or for price.
I just want to know peoples opinions on all aspects of these, from looks to function, as well as why it might be better then my current Civic. I have almost exactly a year left on the factory warranty, so that can save me on fix-it bills, but the insurance is real high and the car payment doesn’t help.
Let me know!!!
My 2001 Honda Civic EX 2dr about 19000mi = about $12,000
the list:
1997 Honda del Sol VETC
4cyl 1.6L DOHC
mi:aprox.75,000
1995 Honda Prelude VTEC
4cyl 2.2L
mi:aprox.82,000
1994 Honda Prelude VTEC
4cyl 2.2L
mi:aprox.85,000
1998 Honda Civic EX 2 or 4 door
4cyl 1.6L
mi:aprox.69,000
1997 Honda Civic EX 2 or 4 door
4cyl 1.6L
mi:aprox.75,000
1996 Honda Civic EX 2 or 4 door
4cyl 1.6L
mi:aprox.79,000
1995-1997 Acura Integra GS-R 2 or 4 door (like Id find one...)
4cyl 1.8L
mi:aprox.--,---
1997 Acura Integra GS 2 or 4 door
4cyl 1.8L

i dont like driving people around, but i am tinking of 4drs for ins reasons. as for cargo space, that dosent really matter. really i want a faster car, or a more mod friendly car
ok first off lol dont trade your civic in for a older civic lol IMO id just keep the current one if that was the case, dont get the prelude b.c. h22's suck *** and if your price is 12K to spend why dont you settle for the LS integ and pocket remaindin money, scratch the GSR IMO they are not worth money if I was gonna get GSR id rather just buy 99-00 SI b.c. b16's are better, I have 94 LS Integ swapped with b20 and I run GSR times stock so was worth the money for me...I bought it for 6K...just depends on you doe, if you want a stock quick car go for GSR but if you want something to work with go LS, you got way more options...you can go LS/Vtec if you want and hit low 14's stock with b18 head...

Anyways... I wouldn't get rid of the new Civic just to get an older Civic... or an Integra because you'd still be driving a Civic. I don't see the point unless your car is giving you a lot of problems or you just completely hate it or you can't afford it.
There's a lot of benefits having a new car - first of all you'll know it better than anyone ever will. It's younger meaning it'll last you longer and you won't have to worry about that as long as you take good care of it. There's nothing exclusively better about the older Civics compared to the new one. If you're just looking for a cheaper car to mod - simply keep the one you have and save your money for the older one.
Otherwise, I don't see the point of going back to an older Civic. A Civic's a Civic. They all do the same thing - drive with the front wheels, save gas, and attract as many teenie boppers as they do car theives. You wouldn't be getting anything better than perhaps a more preferable exterior change (as there are a lot of people who like the 5th/6th gens appearance better than the 7ths).

if you just want fast, then you've been with the wrong generation civics from the start... go 5th gen , preferably a 92 vx... weighs in right around 2050 lbs max... then go out and get a typeS H22 swap for about 5k labor included max, put $1000 worth of bolt ons on it, then for about 8k total investment you are running high 12's all motor, no b.s., i know 3 guys up here with that exact same setup.. one has a 100 shot on top of it! sometimes i wish i had kept my gsr swapped 94... but i like new stuff too much...this way, you have 4k to play with for some REALLY nice paint and jdm stuff, and suspension and wheels, etc... whatever you want... and if your insurance is more than $50-60 a month i would be SHOCKED!!!!!
Ya, it does seem pointless to buy an older civic....as said earlier, a civic is a civic. The only reason i would say buy an older civic would be if you wanted to buy an older hatch and mod the **** out of it....if thats not what you are looking for then keep your current civic...its gonna last a long time..

i would want an older civic so i wouldent have payments anymnore, wich would be more money for fun stuff for the car
i did have some accords and some older celicas on my list, but i didnt like the body style of the accords that i had to choose from (cause of $$$) and i couldent easily find parts (i.e. intake) for them
lets see.. i had some 96 accords, and some 95-96 celicas

Dr5D, I'm in the same boat as you, man. I like my Civic, but I wish I didn't have payments anymore. (LOL) If I could do it all over again, I would've just bought a 92-95 Civic. That's what I'm still thinking of doing. Then I would've dropped in a B18C5....

can't really go to wrong with that set up
If it's about payments you should've made that clear in your first post.
At any rate, just get another Civic. If you're worried about insurance, stay away from the GEEE ESSSSS-AAAARRREEEE.

agreed...he never did say anything about payments in the first post
i think you should by a 92-95 h/b
drop in a b series motor (b18c5
) or even a b16, save money that way
and then with the left over money make the car look good...
that way you have a car thats all go and show

sorry, I didnt mention the payment too much in the opening/first post... I shoule have made myself more clear.
...the insurance is real high and the car payment doesn’t help.

The reason everyone is bringing up HBs is because they are soooo LIGHT WEIGHT!!!...and the less weight you have the less power it takes to make it go fast..
They are still ugly no matter the amount of mods (HBs that is).
I'd say just try to put up with the payments a little longer. Its well worth it to keep the new car, etc. Plus, even if you go used preludes and integras are going to have high insurance.

I don't think this is a car he wants to mod more than get him through college. Either way if a snatchback is what he wanted I'm sure he would've put one on his list (Integ not included).
Hatchcraps are good to mod, yes. But I never heard him say his goal was to get passed the quarter mile with a Honda the most effective way possible. Otherwise a general plus is that they can be made handle around corners better than the Integra and any Civic coupe/sedan.

Hb's are nice, i've met a few in my 02 spec-v on the streets and lost, but if you;re looking for soemthing reliable then go for the GS integ, i test drove one before i got the spec-v, handling is tight, acceleration is allright, its an overall nice car. payment might be high though
