Milage and Cars
Milage and Cars
How much do you generally travel each day as far as milage to get to/from work?
I'm just curious.
Further, how much is the "normal" amount of expected milage to be put on a car each year? 12k or 15k?

I bought my 02 back in november I already put 28.5k on her. I drive about 60 miles a day for work, more before after & weekends. Used to be about 90 miles before I moved last month.

I have 15K miles, on my car, had it since december of 2002... I did go on a 4k road trip though that didn't help the situation...
EDIT:::
12K is considered average... that's why they say change your oil every "3k or 3 months" 1000 miles a month.

70k since august 01' been through a clutch, about to go through a differential, 2 sets of brake pads, one gauge cluster, 1 transmission, 4 sets of tires, and a set of front brake rotors. i drive hard every once in a while.
I never really did any traveling until I got out of highschool. Now Im a damned college commuter. I'd rather be dorming.
my projected mileage is probably 10k a year (excluding any out of state trips).

I've had my car since September 2001 and have 63k on it. Still on the original set of brake pads/shoes, too. As you can probably tell, I do mostly freeway driving.
I used to commute about 60 miles a day. Now I just walk a few hundred feet back and forth between work and my apt.

I'd rather live on campus, too. It'd save me the time.
Some of you drive a *long* way to get to work...60 miles each day? Not only would I be unhappy putting that on my car each day, I'd get bored driving that much each day anyways!
Actually I believe the "average" mileage per year has steadily being going up over the last few years, I would say anything from 12-15k would be considered "average". I drive about 70 miles per day to work and back, give or take. It is 35 miles each way for me. Damn, after seeing that in writing, I need to find a closer job, or move closer to work!!!
Let's see... I registered here at 7thgencivic.com on april 25th of this year. That was right when I bought my 03 civic new with 4 miles on it. It now has 10,250 after only three months. I think it's pretty clear why I traded in my 98 GSR and then chose to buy a civic....

in regards to your post, as well! That's a lot of milage. At this rate, in 12 months you'll have 40k on your car... Do you work far away or do you just love driving like me?
It's the commute to work thats been killing me. Your right, at that rate my three year (36,000 mile) warranty is burned up in LESS THAN ONE YEAR. I've doing the drive for the $50K per year plus some prestige.
No biggie....... I've actually just negotiated a raise AND a transfer closer to home. As of Sep 2nd, my new drive to work is roughly only 7 minutes!!
Speaking of that Here's a brand new thread to help me mull over a decision I will shortly be facing:

I am fortunate enough to live close to work, and drive 15 mile round trip. Unfortunately, anywhere you want to go in San Diego requires driving, so I still put on about 15k a year! Running errands racks up like 50-75 miles in one day!
My parents hoped I'd keep it under 10k a year, for insurance, but that idea went out the window months and months ago...

It depends on where you are. I put on about 3K driving cross country, but now I'm taking the bus to school. It has over 16K on it now.
I have had my car since Jan 02 and I have like 36K but I have also not driven it for months at a time when I was deployed like I am now. It didn't help my girl lived about 35-40 miles away and drove to see her often.
