Discussion: Why are the 2001 civics the fastest?
It seems to me that the 2001 Civics are the fastest... read my thread at http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...602post1299602
Anybody know of the differences? Maybe emissions? Maybe ECU? Please, if anyone knows, please explain this to me. As I've said, my friend's 01 is VERY NOTICABLY powerful. Even more so than my friend's 2002 LX. And yes I'd pay for whatever OEM part(s) would make it faster. I drove my friend's 2001 LX auto sedan and was having a blast compared to my 02 ex.

Sounds like the real test would be to put a stock 01 and a stock 02 on the line and find out. Air flow is good but sounds like he is still using the stock ECU. Not sure how adaptable the ECU is but...?
Would be interesting to get them on a dyno, could be the gearing as well...did they change the gearing in the 02 to increase gas milage?

Me and my friends do that all the time. My friend's LX pulls on me like a BIATCH, and my other friend's 2002 LX i can tie up with. So the 2001 is definitely torquier.. you can FEEL the diff. weird. I have so many friends with 7th gens (notincluding the ones i met on this forum) its crazy.
yes ex is heavier than LX, but from 01 to 02, Honda has changed the rear suspension as well as the exhaust. The 02 has a bend in the exhaust while the 01 is on a more strait path.

well i dont necessarily think the gearing changed, i just think that it might be something with the ecu, because in 2002, honda changed the immobilizer units to a different style, so perhaps they changed the ecu's as well...

well if i get the weekend off.. ill go dyno my car.. if it produces more torque than stock or more hp.. dont be suprised... i have an exhaust and intake.. but if the numbers are absurdly high for what mods i have.. then we will know that something is up with the 01's

it could just be a milage thing. some engines need a some miles on them before they start to "losen up" and make a bit more power.
Each car is slightly different. They wear different, and get broken in differently. You'd have to do a lot more comparisons with different 01's and 02's before you can say that 01's are faster.
Given that the parts are mostly the same, shouldn't be a noticable difference.

i believe the 03 ex manual is slower than the 01 ex manual. My friend has an 01 and i have the 03. we went to the track to see who was better.. seeing as we have the same car were thinking it'd be based on who shifted better. the first run we ran i ran a 17.21 and he ran a 16 flat. the next run he ran a 16.3 while i ran a 17.1.. on the third run we decided to switch cars. i ran a 16.2 and then he ran a 17 flat.. both cars are stock. His car feels the same as mine so i dont get it

well i think this is BS... some cars are gonna comeout faster just due to manufacturer defects or tiny little differences,,,, but the 01 isnt faster.... i just dont see it as possible... the 02 might be a little bit heavier though... but same engine, no differences made... not that it will matter with me anyways since my 02 is going turbo soon, and the backup motor i might be buying to build up is a 01.... but its gonna be gutted anyways... TOTAL rebuild... can anyone say 16psi??????
