RSX or 1.8t gti

Im looking at getting a new car this september, and I have two choices. The RSX type S and a 1.8t GTI. SO far im leaning GTI but I see that its really heavy. The GTI is a 180 hp 174 ft lb and the RSx is 200hp dont know rsx ft lb. But I know its a lot less than the GTI. I personallylike the GTI because not many have them around where i live, so there unique. Not to many people know about them and their potential. And i have heard of some GTIs that can really whoop some ***. What do you guys say?

neuspeed has a chip upgrade for the stock turbo, to push it over 200 hp, and its like 3 something for it, and they also make a turbo upgrade for like 1200,

id go for the gti with the 2 upgrades

Personaly, I never compair modifyed cars against each other (too many Vairables). So, just look at them Stock Vs Stock.

First off, what are you looking for in a car? Straight line acceleration? Cornering power? uniqueness?

For straight line acceleration, Horse power and Tourque are what your looking at. Weight plays a part, but not a whole lot.

Cornering, thats where weight is the important factor, the lighter car will have an edge.

uniqueness, thats just a product of where you live.

if your looking at potential, well thats a whole nother ball game. I say this because with enough $$$$ you can make any thing fast. Thats the reason I dont look at modifyed cars when trying to figure out which car is better.

You also have to take in to consideration the $$$ for parts. Hopefully you'll not have to do any big repairs, but all car parts eventually wear out. So how much does each one on average cost to maintain? I know VW has allways been expensive but then again, any car with an Acura tag on it is also expensive to fix.

For me, I'd take the one that handled better. But thats just because I'd end up autocrossing it.

Good luck.

i like the way the gti looks.(IMO better than the rsx stock). it also seems well put together. However the resale value of used VW's sux *** compared to a honda acura product. Also reliability of a vw compared to the rsx is not in the vw's favor.
...just a few more things to take into consideration.

i'd take the RSX. i think the GTI looks better, the 1.8t is more fun to drive, and the interior is more plush, but the RSX just isn't plagued with the problems many VW owners experience.

Exactly what Zzyzx said: What are you looking for in a car?

You're gonna get a bunch of mixed answers in this thread, so ultimately it'll be up to you.

But I say RSX.

get the rsx-s even tho its more common there is a reason for that.. its a great car.. sure the gti is already turboed but the rsx is all motor and u can customize the engine your self.. heres the comparison:

http://www.acura.com/models/model_co...asp?module=rsx

go to volkswagen and acura to test drive those cars too.

gti-better looks, nicer interior, less common, and it has turbo, a turbo that is so easily upgraded.

I totally go for the 1.8T. My brother has a '01 Beetle 1.8T and he's pushin his well over 200 hp with new inlet piping, boost controller, intake, and exhaust. You can really upgrade that engine.

rsx-s but for 23k there are other cars i would get....
but between the two, I think the VW is ugly as sin, plus turbo cars generally have more problems than all motor cars.

Also I think the rsx-s interior blows the gti away.

FYI the GTI 1.8 engine is underrated as to not compete with the new VR6. the 1.8 commonly dynos about 200 hp to the wheels. the RSX puts out 142 lbs of torque at 6000 rpms and the GTI puts out "172" from 1950-5000 rpms. it all depends on what you want. if its potential you want then go with the GTI, with the P-Chip and exhaust you can easily run 13's, lower on slicks. the RSX can run 13's with every bolt on but thats alot more expensive. also the rsx has an 11:1 comp. ratio so if you want to run serious boost on a turbo or supercharger youll have to rebuild the motor with lower comp. pistions. the GTI also still handles great despite its weight. anyhow its up to you, look at the facts and decide for yourself which is right for you.

go with the GTI, the RSX seems just like a civic unless you get above 6500RPMS, which gets quite annoying sometimes.

if you are short and tiny (like me), the whole interior space thing doesn't matter... nonetheless, one thing i DID like about the gti/golf, as far as aesthetics went: it was nice and roomy.. so much space. well, for a itty bitty hatchback.

like i said.. get a plain 'ol golf vr6. supercharge it.

personally i find the RSXs more appealing than the VW. IM not a fan of the VW tag anyway. Not to say the GTi is a bad car but from the people i talk to and the stories i read the VW tag is plauged with problems. IMO RSXs no doubt

Stock for stock, I think the GTI looks better. Fit and finish of the GTI's interior is very good, but so is the RSX, I love the seats of the Type S.

Right now, I think I would take a GTI. Put some bolt ons, a chip, and coilovers (stock suspesnion is really soft) and be perfectly happy.

old beater - I know we had this discussion before, not flaming you, but where have you heard/seen a STOCK GTI making 200 HP to the wheels? 200 HP to the wheels even for a pretty heavy car (2900 lbs for GTI) is pretty good. Until I see a dyno sheet or new GTI with dealer plates skoot down the 1/4 in the mid 14's, I think this information is incorrect.

only thing I have to say is that the VW has a turbo AND less power, put a turbo with the same PSI and see what you get on the Type-S.
