Umm... they already have the Skyline here. But even if there is a GT-R here, I would have to say it's gonna be under Infiniti

Yes, but they are based on the same platform and the styling for the G35 coupe is almost (read:almost) identical. Its just that the G35 is tuned down to 260 hp, with the optional 280 hp, while the Z comes standard with 287 hp.

I think that the Z is doing pretty well seeing as its sales are doing really good and the car is getting a great rep in terms of styling and power (the interior gets bashed alot, but thats not why you buy the Z in the first place). Thus, they really dont need to badge it as a Nissan Skyline.

Also, Car and Driver (i believe, or was it Motortrend?, whatever) gave the G35 the title of car of the year. So, they really didnt need to badge either under the Skyline name.

But, it would be sweet to see the Nissan Skyline GT-R here in the US, they would probably take the Z workhorse engine (Nissan uses the engine in most of their cars), tune it a bit more to get about 300 hp NA and then twin turbo it to get 370-400 hp. Obviously the styling would be different, and the interior would probably be more high class than the Z. They would probably sticker this at around $60-80K.

But, thats just the logical thinking, maybe they wont do it, maybe they will who knows.

i dont think it would be a skyline without a straight 6 twin turbo... and acutally i think the g35 coupe came in second just after the rx8 and ahead of the svt cobra for full sized coupes or something like that.. meaning its got a back seat..

i would like to think, or hope maybe, that theyd price it comparably to the sti and evo. that would make more sense from a marketing standpoint. Arent they (under)rated at around 285hp overseas, that would put it in the same class as the evo and sti, so again it would seem logical to price it accordingly. we'll probably never get it though.

The G35 and the 350Z are the same platform, yes... but the G35 is in so many words... the R35 Skyline. The Skyline and 300Z have always had some parts that are interchangeable. I know its not turbo or twin turbo, but... neither is the base model Skyline GT or GTS. The GTR always comes later... so give it time. We may never get an R35 GTR, but we do (technically) have the Skyline

Man every thread about the Skyline there's wrong stuff being said.

1) The G35/Skyline is not the R35. There is no R35. The Skyline and the GT-R are separate names, though the GT-R will share the same chasis as the G35.

2) The Nissan (or Infiniti) GT-R will come to states. That's what Carlos Ghosn (Nissan's CEO) has personally said. They've separated the names to market them differently. Great move. The GT-R will be marketed as an upscale exotic car, so it won't be put in the same class as 2 Fast 2 Furious cars with ungainly big wings (Evo VIII).

3) Expect the car to be at least $45,000 dollars. It was never in the same league as the Lancer Evolution or the WRX. They won't try to make it as one.

Following tradition, it'd probably be a straight 6 twin turbo 4WD with SSS Atessa suspension system. Due to the informal 280HP cap, Nissan will likely bring a more powerful variant to the states.

The G35/Skyline is known as a V35 by those who want to go by the more traditional
numbering of the line. There are 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5L engines available. There does exist a version called the Skyline 350GT in Japan... which would be relatively equivelant to the the G35 Coupe here, with Brembos, sport suspension, and the VQ35DE engine. The car and the 350Z ride on the same platform as the R34 Skyline did. Attessa is the AWD system (its now Attessa II), and HICAS is the All Wheel Steering system (now Super HICAS).

Last I heard... the car was going to be running atleast $55,000 (this might have changed), and I have a feeling some variant of the VQ35 is going to find it's way into the GT-R... most likely with twin turbos, pushing somewhere around 400 HP.

Nissan already has the 350Z to compete with the STi and the Evo, and the 350Z is ten times better than both those cars. The only problem is it is a bit heavy and it only has 2 seats.

But, given that the Skyline is such a prestigeous name to many in north america, they aren't just gonna build it to compete with the STi and Evo, that would be blasphemous. If it ever comes back it will be what Nissan thought of doing with the Z, which is to make it more supercar priced rather than affordable.

Besides, why would Nissan worry about two cars built by the two crappiest Japanese car companies (Mazda is basically American) that are uglier than a old fat chick.

Also, one of the prestigeous magazines gave the G35 the car of the year award. It was on the cover of (I think) Car and Driver, and it was on the ten best list along with the Z.

At one point we'll get our version of the gtr and btw the GT-R is under rated in japan and where ever else sold. R34 V Spec || is suppose to be really rated at about 330-340hp. Hopefully they will bring a de-tuned GT-R to the states and canada cuz I want one of the greatest AWD systems in the world.

Yeah, they did a good job of designing a rotary engine (which they happened to have experience with prior to being bought by Ford). And the 6 is an ok car, but when I look at most Mazdas today I could have sworn that it came right out of the factory in Dearborn (or wherever they manufacture Fords).

My bad, the AWD is Attessa, you're right. I was thinking of this old school bluebird when I wrote that (even then it was the brakes).

Actually the 350 GT comes both as a 4 door and coupe, but i think the coupe only gets the brembos.

Realistically speaking, yeah the GT-R will be 55-60k.

This ought to settle it, the G35 is called the Nissan Skyline in Japan.

Link:IGN Review of G35 Coupe

Just means that the we are still waiting for Nissan to produce the GTR which will have to have at least 370-400 hp.

i've seen that before.. i think it is a chop, but a very, very pretty one at that.. as for the $80k for a skyline, that was the approximate price to import one from japan (or so i was told)
