Does anyone know?

Does anyone know the organization that defends Honda/Acura drivers with 'hooked up' cars from being descriminated by police?

I was driving along this morning to a job interview, following traffic and minding my own business and a cop pulled out in front of me about 40 yards ahead. Well traffic is going about 35 and I was going 35. He was going about 32 or 33 i guess and traffic caught up, then he picked up to 34 or 35. I was 2 car lengths behind him and he puts his flashers on, so I slow down to give him room to do whatever.. he pulls of into on coming traffic and so I pass him, well after I pass him he pulls back in and behind me with them still on, so I move to the right-hand lane to let him pass.. He moves behind me again.. so obviously it is me he wants.. WHY you ask? I have NO idea! But I pull over into a strip mall about 10 feet ahead. He pulls in behind me and I do exactly as I am supposed to.. Calm, mindful, and he says to me “Do you know what the law for following distance is?”, I respond, “Yes, I took defensive driving a month and a half ago for insurance purposes, it is 2 seconds behind you car”

“No, it is 1 car length for every 10 mph.”, I respond, “I am sorry I was not aware of that, I only know that the 2 second rule is taught, and that is the distance every leaves.”

“License and insurance please” he says, “Yes sir.: I respond.

After about 7 or 8 minutes he comes back. “Why is your address on your Drivers license outdated?” I respond “I did not realize it needed to be changed until it was expired”

We were talking for a minute and as he is giving me a citation for “failure to notify change of address”, and “following to close” he says that he has been rear-ended 3 times.

I respond, “I guess I was driving behind the wrong cop.”

I made sure his information was on the citation.. I think he was just harassing me because A) I have a nice car.. it is not uncommon in Houston.
B) He was having a bad day.
C) He wanted to see what he could get on me (see a & b)
D) Because there was a black accord right next to him with yellow bumpers/side skirts/ door handles/ mirrors/ and wing.
Or
E) All of the above.

I was driving even better than I normally drive and minding my own business and he pulls me over like that.

I want to get it dismissed, it is just ludicrous in my opinion and I honestly feel like I was victimized for having a nice car.

Granted I will take care of my drivers license, hardly anyone ever actually changes them, my parents still haven’t either, but I will, and get it dismissed, I think I was just harassed and it should be dismissed. I’ll push that thing back until the end of time if I have to, it’s just bs.

Thanks for any help with this guys...

Craig

I was able to see his front wheels touching the ground under the car so I know I wasn’t that close to him. I don’t know, I just feel like it was a bs pull over, that accord was going about 37 or so, so it would make sense that he would pull him over instead of going out of his way to get me..

Well, no traps.com msged me saying that cops are trying to give as many citations as possible, so I doubt he will show in court.. I will take it to trial by judge and if he shows i will post pone it again for a 'lawyer'.

You own a car that is flagged because of one movie. The reputation of street racing and yes you must be dealing drugs. Harrassment can be found if you are pulled over 3 times in a month period (in Canada). Or if something is said by the officer ... file a complaint. A buddy of mine was told by a cop that he "was his new hard on." Sick cop. The cop was repremended and my buddy was given an apology.
About court you are screwed. You have to keep you address updated.

They shouldn't be pulling anyone over because of how your car looks. You did nothing wrong. He just didn't like what, HE THINKS your car represents.
The town I live in has about 20 mod civics and it is a training facility for RCMP (Canadian police) and they are '****'. I had to remove my side tint, front angel eye headlights and they questioned how low my car was and how loud the muffler is. I get stares all the time, until I lost it on one cop about my under body neon and license plate frame. Haven't had a problem yet. (CROSSING FINGERS)

OH YA, make sure you have your information together for court. You don't want to look like you know nothing and keep your story simple.

Yep, this is what I call "car discrimination." IMO, cops pay more attention to fixed-up cars because they're under the impression that we're all going to act like the characters in "The Fast and The Furious." But then again, it's pretty hard NOT to notice a fixed-up car since it stands out dramatically from stock. I've always said, if you and a mini van were going the same speed on a freeway. I betcha anything the cop will pull the import over versus the mini van. I'm also sure this happens with fast cars like Trans Am and Corvettes, etc. The more attention your car grabs, the more harrassment you will recieve.

Just take it to court. If you KNOW you weren't following too closely, get a court date and see if he even bothers to show up. Good luck.

Thanks.. hey jaysun what info should I have together. It's kind of my word versus his... I have his info so I could try and check if he has any background of harassment. But, the truth and not the story is that I was at least 2 full cars behind him at 35 and the accord was going 37 or 38 slowly passing him, and he only bothered to pull me over.

What should I have prepared? I am unsure how to go about this becuase this is the first time I have ever not been able to prove on the spot to get out of it. I have never had to take it further than the cop.

I have had a cop pull me over for going high 60's in a 55 when he didn't tag me and my radar did not go off, I was going around 57 or 58, when I asked for his slip from the gun he said it was his opinion, and I responded that I was staying perfectly with the flow of traffic at 55-60, and he backed off and left. I have had a few cops ask me about my DOT numbers on my exhuast and actaully take a ruler to my car to make sure I was legal hieght, but when I show the slips and tell them the actual law regarding hieght they back off.. I just wasn't prepared for this kind of bs.

Find out exactly what the law states that you have been told you committed.
You were travelling an exceptable speed and you kept 2 car lengths.
Bring your drives license manual (the one for taking your drivers test). It should state 2 car lengths in it. So in order to pass and receive a license you must know the book and you did as you learned. Present to the judge you understand the rules of the road and you were following them.
I don't think you will get off on the non-updated address.
Do not guess others speeds, it can get you in trouble. Just state your speed if you know it and say they were going slower or faster than you, they can't trip you up then.
Also, if you are a student. Plead it to the judge you don't have alot of money. I used that one when I went to school in Portland, OR and the judge reduced it from $300 to $100.
Also, respect the court room. Dress appropriately, speak when spoken to and DO NOT start slinging mud, you know, he said this and that. Don't bring up that the cop must have pulled you over because of how your car looks. Answer the questions and thats it don't add anything extra. It will get you in trouble. Judges are human lie detectors.
Good Luck and you never know, the cop may not show up and you get off.
