stock 9th gen si kinda have a airy sound to the exhaust which I don't really like. I recently got an axleback exhaust on my 9th gen and it still had that airy sound to it. A buddy of mine has a straight piped 3" exhaust on his civic and what I like about it is that I can actually hear the engine. No weird air sound, just pure engine which is what I would like for my car (except I don't want to straight pipe it). Under 2000 rpm has a deep tone which I like but over that the air sound overtakes the engine sound which I want to get rid of. My idea was to bring my car to an exhaust shop and just upgrade the pipes to a 3" pipe, maybe get a 3" resonator or just keep the stock one. Anyone know if this would work or have better ideas to get rid of the air sound?
And yes I know civic's sound like fart cans but I would like to actually hear that fart can without hearing air wooshing out the exhaust and without being crazy loud.
heres a video of the airy sound, the straight piped civic doesn't have that which is what I want for my car

Are you referring to the rasp? The almost bubbly noise?
I wouldn't call it bubbly. It really just sounds like air moving fast out of a pipe. Maybe it's a bit raspy. I just want an exhaust where I just hear or mainly hear the engine. Below 2000 rpm it sounds pretty good but above that I can't hear the engine as much. Like if I downshift and the rpm is below 3000 after I downshift I can usually hear some light burbles, anything above 3000 then I can't hear those burbles because of that airy sound taking over.

Maybe try a ram air or cold air intake first. They release some actual engine noise which, in my opinion, sounds better than most cat backs and axle backs.
Wouldn't I need a tune with a cold air intake?
