Need Help | Unusual Use Case - I need a Class 3 Hitch
Hey there. Looking for a Class III hitch for a 2012 Civic, M/T sedan.
I'm not planning to tow with it. I know a typical Class III load is WAY beyond the capabilities of this car. The main thing I actually need is a 2" receiver. Most commonly available hitches are Class I for this car with a 1 1/4" receiver. I need the larger receiver size to support a cargo rack on the rear. There are a number of racks that support a class 1 hitch, with a 1 1/4" receiver, but most of them are really poor quality. The highest load on the rack, counting the weight of the rack itself, would be about 135lbs. A small single-stage snowblower (@84lbs with fuel) and some salt+a shovel. This is the rack: 48 x 30 in. Steel Hitch-Mount Cargo Carrier | Princess Auto
I've never installed a hitch myself, although I've done plenty of hands-on work. I do my own timing belts, engine mounts, suspension work etc on my vehicles. Would a universal option work? I can find Class 3 receivers from department stores around me that seem like they would work, but they're not custom for the Civic. I've found one option that's custom, but it's double (or more) the price of all other hitch options. Anyone have any tips?
Thanks!

Quick Google search led me to the below link. There are 2" receiver hitches available but they still only have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity (same as the 1 1/4" receivers).

Re: Need Help | Unusual Use Case - I need a Class 3 Hitch
That makes sense. Thanks for the reply, BrotatoChip. I had found that specific hitch myself from etrailer, but it was about 2.5x the price of other hitch options, even class III options for my Saturn Vue. They're about $100USD - this is $300USD. Quite the spend. If that's the only way I can go, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet, but I'm HOPING I can find something else that's more reasonable, even if it means some DIY work.
edit: scratch that, it's about $390 USD with shipping. I live in Canada, and that's approaching the $550-$600 mark here all things considered. Can't justify that level of spend on a hitch receiver quite yet. Going to have to try to find something else.
