notice the tix says 1 of 2 cars. we were not racing but he could have given us a tix for it. so he did cut me alittle break. but we were going to a greek festive in lynn ma, that my girl was dancing in and we were late. so i think thats why
Fight it no matter what. Every ticket I have ever gotten I go to court. You have at least a fighting chance you will win and if anything you might get the ticket knocked down to half. Also if you loose the first time you can appeal. Though for any of the tickets I've ever gotten I would've paid the fine if it didn't make my insurance go up. Take advantage of the system sometimes it actually might work for you.

You could fight it, but you won't win. There is no way in heck that the judge will let you off clean. Even if you weren't going 96, you were at least going 80 if you were next to the other person for even a second, and he got the other one on laser at 96....
Hate to be a bummer, but it's the truth....
I'd still fight the "estimated" BS.... You could knock down a $285 ticket to $50....
I had to pay a ticket like that, got caught on laser doing 97 in a 65. Cop was so pissed that he took me out of the car and took me to his car to show me the gun!!! Me doing 97, the car next to me doing 92.....

Um... Yeah, fight it. You will at least get it knocked down to less. If you're extremely lucky (or you know your stuff), then you will win. What do you guys mean by "estimated" though? Where does it say that?

I think even if you did fight the "estimated" speed. If he estimated it at 96mph, if would still be well over the limit, even if he was off by 5 or 10mph.. I would save the hassle and just pay it.
I would fight it.
Although I never fought the one I got (years ago).
but I found out most of the info that I now know after I had paid it.
I've heard, that if you go to fight it.
and it is an estimated speed reading. they will cut the price in 1/2..... I'm not sure how true this is. but thatz what I've heard.
also... if the police officer doesn't show up. you win.
I will try to find a site that was posted a while back on how to beat a ticket.
I would say.... if you can (time wise) fight it.
remember.... time is money.... and in this case time could be worth $285 + insurance premium (that you save of course)
If I find that thread, or article I will post it.

Good luck J! Always fight it....you never know what'll happen. I tried and lost, but at least I gave it a shot...my case was a little more difficult: 45 in a 35, but I was clocked at much more. The statie made a note of that, so the judge thought I was getting a break anyhow, so I had to pay the minimum fine...better than paying what I was clocked at though, that's for sure!

Hey Inca:
I searched just about everywhere that I could think of, and I didn't come up with any great advice about what to do while fighting the ticket.
the only thing that I would say, is go for it anyways.
also.... (this is something that I remember reading somewhere)
find out what days the officer that gave you the ticket has off from work.
because they don't get paid for going to court, so they do it on the clock.
If he is off the day you go to court, then you automatically win. (I think)
also... try to pospone the court date for a while.
If the officer remembers you then you are in trouble (because he tell the judge how fast you were going).... but if he can't remember exactly how fast you were going (it is your word against his) and how does the judge know that you weren't really going 55 mph.

I beg to differ on this one. For the first court hearing, I had fought a ticket and the Trooper did not show up at all. There was, though, a representative for the State there and he handled the argument of the case based off of the (very detailed) police log that was filed by the officer. This first court date was in front of the magistrate. If you disagree with the magistrate's decision and appeal it, you will then go in front of a district judge and that is where it is helpful for the Trooper to show up. Very rarely does NOBODY show up to defend the state, but it does happen (not nearly as much as people say). This applies to State Trooper tickets. Local Tickets are a little different where most Towns don't want to pay the money for a lawyer to go and represent them if the officer is off duty at the time of the second trial. At the point of the second trial, it is now AT LEAST 6 months later, the police log is the key to the whole thing, and you just prolonged the 7 year surcharge on your insurance for yet another year................ SO, how does that help your decision?????????? I went to court to fight a ticket last March and I won. I was clocked at 45 in a 30 (not too bad), but I went into court prepared. I borrowed a book from the library on how to win tickets in court (I don't remember the name, sorry!) and I took pictures of the road I was stopped on and I made notes on where the officer was sitting ect....
My major point was...that there was no way that the office could get an accurate radar reading from the spot he was sitting. I brought my b/f w/ me who was in the car the time we were pulled over and he testified. Honestly, I think that's what did it. We went to soo much trouble, I think the judge just felt bad and he let me off.
Either way I think it's worth a shot....It can't hurt to try.

Sure, if I remember the name of the book I'll let you know. You may also want to surf around the net looking for stuff like that, when I was looking I found a few really great sites. Just an FYI...if you go to the magistrate (sorry, I can not spell!!!) and he finds you responsible and you decide to go in front of a judge to appeal it....you have the right to ask for a copy of the officer's notes. Basically, if he wrote anything down about the traffic pattern or anything else you'll have it. That way you'll have a really good idea of what the cop will say in court.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!
