Hey dude. Just wanted to ask you to post that information about the cable that you came across that suposedly hooks up to our ECU. That and the software you found. Can you tell me a little bit more about that again? Thanks in advance.

hey guys,
I had a couple of links for the OBD-II connectors (but most of them are on my laptop. which is out in my car right now)
the main one that I was talking to you about was
http://www.obd-2.com/
they have some good info on some of the stuff!
also a rundown of what I found out.
1st.
$122 gets you
Software:
Use Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME, 2K, XP computer, 386 or higher, optimized for low cost laptops.
Help files and free unlimited online tech support, including vehicle troubleshooting.
Free software upgrades. 32 day money back guarantee. 2 year warranty.
Cable:
Includes protected RS-232 serial interface, OBD-II connector and cable (over 100 feet possible) and a selection of one of 3 possible OBD-2 gateway routers
2nd.
they have a 25% off for competitive upgrade or full time student.
so thatz 122-(122*.25) = $91.5 (if I'm correct) ain't bad for all that you get
3rd.
there are places that have diagrams and a bunch of other stuff that you can build yourself,
but I think that the parts would cost you more if you build it yourself.
the cheapest that I found the OBD-II connector (not even a serial to OBD-II converter. it was just a end plug) was $89 dollars + shipping.
4th.
there is a lot of free software that is free that allows you to do different stuff with your car, you just need cables, I think that this cable should work with all the software.
let me know what you guys think.
(I will try to put up the other links later if I get a chance)

edit: forgot to close one of the bold tags and 1/2 the page was bold

Oh, I see... No modification, only data acquisition and display. Not bad, but not great. I want to be able to modify some stuff. Don't our ECU's have flash memory? I think they do. I want to be able to modify everything. Good start though, I'll start reading more when I'm closer to getting some money for something that will let me modify. Modify! hey I never said that you could re-program the ECU I just said that you could view the ECU info.

I think that with that one cable you could program your ECU, you just need software to let you do it.
some stuff that I've learned while looking for all that OBD-II stuff is that there is
a K-Line, L-Line, ground, and +12v.
K line is used to comunicate with the ECU
L line is used to wake the ECU up
ground and +12v are self explanatory
the only thing is that you have to know where in memory the ECU keeps what info.
here is one other link that should help you out.
I actually found out that they sell some cables for a decent price as well.
-Ready-made ISO/VAG Interface for $53.90 (USD) (no OBD-II connector)
-OBD-II connector supplied with 5 pins $11.55 (USD)
-RS232 Female to Female connection lead ~1.0 metres $6.16 (USD)
link
I hope that this helps too
COME ON GREY! you're a smart kid...... figure it out for us! hehe
I think that you should buy both cables and let us know which ones work better.....lol....j/k
I think that the above link has plenty of info and some useful links.
what would you guys do without me? j/k

OH!! I was thinking it was a mod, kinda like the JET chip..
Still sounds pretty interesting though..
Speaking of JET, anyone have one? I'm considering one of those also along with the header.

I've done some research about the jet chip. I called jet and they said that you have to send your ecu to them they work their magic and send it back next day shipping. Also they have this thing called a v-force. you can turn it on and off . improves acceleration and hp gains of 8-10 .
