i broke something...

i just personally changed my lower ball joints. of course in doing this i need an alignment. i take it to firestone, because its 4pm on saturday and everything else is closed. they put the car on the lift and the guy shakes the tire on the passenger side. it shakes up and down. doesnt do this on the drivers side. so i wasnt able to get an alignment. what might cause a wheel to do this. the camber even looks slighty off. ive done a search but our search engine stinks. half the people who respond to questions on this topic are just post ****** and have no real advise or knowledge. i know there are alot of smart tuners in the northeast.... what do ya thinK. does a cv joint do that? hub assembaly? they had no idea what to tell me at firestone. id look myself but its pooring out. thanks guys see ya at the casino.

I see that you have Hayame Coilovers... Which version? V1 or V2? I had V2 and the tire wobbled in a certain direction. It wasn't up and down (more at a 45 degree angle). I noticed that the top nut was moving as this happened. It's a geometry problem. I don't know exactly why that happens, but I do know that a pillow-ball upper mount will most likely solve the problem. That's why I'm getting those D2 Racing Coilover (if I can find some for a good price).

hope this helps,
M

The pillow ball upper mounts are a suspension pivot point up near the top of the coilover. In our front suspensions they're pretty much required, but Honda chose to not use one and just go with some rubber that moves a little. With stock ride height it's not a problem since it moves a tiny bit and the rubber bends.

When you're lowered though, the suspension needs to move a lot up near the strut mounting point. The Hayame's also have a bit of rubber there, but it's not enought to allow the degree of movement that is needed. Instead, another part of the Hayame coilover moves. The whol strut moves within the threads!

When you tighten the upper nut and the locking rings, it's better. It comes loose with time though. I was thiking of getting one more locking ring for the bottom to make it even tighter. Or... You could solve the problem by welding and re-threading the whole coilover. Sucks huh? I really hate this design flaw. Well, maybe more manufacturing...
