Coilover install at my house...
Hey peeps. What's happenin'? Anyone want to come on over to hang out and witness a coilover install? I just got my Hayame's today and I hear from Brandon (Mystic3030) that he's got his Tein SS's to intstall too.
The Date I have in mind is: Sunday, the 13th of June
The Time I have in mind is: 10:00AM - 2:00PM
Now, 10:00AM - 2:00PM means that people will show up within this range of time. How long you guys stay is up to how long this install will take, although if we finish early maybe it'de be nice to do some testing somewhere, or something...
So... Who's down? C'mon Custom Concepts represent! hehe...

would you guys want to bring your stuff here to install it all? I have 3 garage bays, and a driveway that can hold at least 8-9 cars...

Ohhh, can I come?
If all the cool kids are doin' "it"...then I have to do "it" too...
What the hell is "Enhanced Mode" and is it for my pleasure? I just stuck with "Guided Mode" since I think I needed a little help the first time.
Ahhhhhh gotta lay of the exhaust fumes....

id come up, but i cant. cousins b-day on saturday.
considering the fairly easy spring install we did, the coilovers shouldnt be too bad. theyre pretty much just bolt on, right? you replace the whole shock/spring component w/ the coilover??
take pix, id love to see the install.

Mine are, yep. Brandon's aren't though. He has to put some of the stock parts into the Tein's. A little more involved. Spring compressor needed as well. Shouldn't be too too bad though.

I never used a spring compressor for either of my two spring setups... Shouldn't be that bad for ya. How do you like the look/quality of the Hayames? My sponser might have an extra set he can hook me up with but I'm not sure if it's worth it yet.

I haven't had time to look at them yet. It kinda sucks when you have more money than time. That's my current situation.
I'll let you know on Sun. though!

Hehe... Ok, so it ain't that bad.
Cya tomorrow!
I opened up the coilovers. They look nice. Good quality. Better than OEM I think. I know of certain problems that people mentioned though. Like the rubber sleeves binding in some situations. I think they'll be nice though. I'll write up a review after I install them and test them out.

Pretty good. I only did my fronts. Brandon installed everything though. His rear dust boot had to be cut. It was banging into the springs and was making a noise. Other than that everything is nice.
Mine are interesting. They're different than all the other Hayame's I've seen pictures of. Maybe 2nd generation? I'll post pics tonight if I can. The tie rod attachment point isn't straight, it's more like OEM. Although the tie rod end now attaches to the bottom for better geometry when lowered.
The ride is nice. A tiny bit firmer than OEM over bumps, but very noticeably stiffer when cornering. Instant response when turning. Now I feel my tires bending. hehe...
I have some install tips too, I'll probably write up a DIY when I finish installing them. I still have to do the back. Then I'll align everything. The camberm, the toe, etc. I'll do that myself. I did it the last time I installed noname's stock shocks and I did a nice job.

The difference in my car is amazing. With the dampers set more on the soft end, it rides like a caddy on the highway over bumps and irregularities in the road. Come time for the offramps or twists and its positively GLUED to the road. And no more of that skipping loss of traction when you accelerate with the wheels slightly turned that our cars are infamous for. I havent been able to break my rear end loose in a turn yet...rather impressive I must say.

My setup is amazing. I can take corners at 150. It rides like a boat. I feel like I'm hovering on air. It actually made my camber be so negative that I am driving on the rims. Oh wait, I didn't put anything in my car...
Yeah, I helped out A BIT. Anyone who knows Mystic knows how great he is with tools (at least Phil does). It went better than I thought it would...

Glad to hear it. Grey, I talked to Dezod today. I bought a set of Hayames to install this weekend. If you have any tips let me know, should be relatively straight forward though...

You might want to get your setup checked. Everybody knows negative camber is better than cheese. Plus if you'd stop smoking an 8 ball before driving you wouldn't get that floating on air thing while taking a corner at 15 mph.

1. The tie rod bolt goes on top of the tie rod attachment point on the coilover. The tie rod goes on the bottom.
2. The two big bolts that hold the coilover to the thing with the rotor on it that's attached to the lower control arm. That thing... You need to drive the bolts in at the same time. Otherwise you'll have a hard time getting both of them through all of the holes (alignment issues and such).
3. When adjusting the coilovers. First adjust the height by turning the whole coilover (grab the threads, sometimes the spring will turn the threads). Remember to get the third locking ring out of the way. Measure the amount of threads visible to set the height to be the same on either side. Then adjust the pre-load by tightening the spring down. Make sure the amount of threads betwean the upper locking rings and the lower one is the same. That's the easiest way to measure IMO.
That's it!
