OT: Feeling Nostalgic
I've been on this site for a while now and after browsing off topic I came to a conclusion tonight: things on the site are not what they used to be.
Sure, people come and go, just like every other internet board. I just remember the days of Twilightx, Grey, and Blk4blk being the top mods around. I remember when NE owned the boards. I remember www.2k1civic.com (or whatever it was...). When points didn't matter, no one had custom titles, and sivikchik wreaked havoc across the board
... JoeB16 was controversial (sp?), slickgreek was a pita, and there were the ladies - Flypoof, monkey, sivikchik, etc. Turbo's were still a dream, nitrous was new ground to be covered, and Grey was (and always will be) the DIY king. Mohawkboom was THE BEST ICE mod (after you Mystic
) always answering every single noobs stupid question instead of yelling SEARCH. People didn't get yelled at for posting new ideas (since all ideas about our cars were new at the time) or for trying to help out...
There were a handful of forums (my post started the vehicle problems forum!!) and a handful of mods to go along with it... Installs were done every other week at Grey's house, we all learned how to take our front bumper off from Grey (I still don't know). First there was nothing, then there were the pop up ads, then google banners... Pretty much every single topic about our cars has been covered over the years... The videos of meets we had that I made, Custom Concepts... blackvtec, chrissy, that angel girl (forgot her s/n), the old NE peeps we met at various get togethers (remember boosted?), and all the old peeps....
I guess I'm posting this since NE has been slow lately and wanted to drum up some conversation.... Hey old timers like me, do you ever wish you could re-live old days? What other things do you remember from back then?
Not that the forum of before is any better than today by any means, it's just very different to me now. I'm not stupid, I realize some people sell their cars, some lose interest in the site, some still lurk and don't post much anymore, etc.... Again, I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic... Welcome to the age of internet forums I guess....

Even if I am not a true NE memeber, I remember everything you are talking about. I always came in here and read up on what you guys were doing. Oh yes, the good old days.

Hey, I don't feel too noobish since I can remember all of that
. My greatest NE moment is still getting booted from the casino, but anyway. I used to hang around only OT and NE. I actually enjoyed the forum from the time I joined, to the time of the CivicWorld (or whatever it was going to change to) talk. That isn't the reason though. For some reason when this site changed to the new format, everything took a turn. Rather than some good OT conversations, helpful information, and what not... there are too much people yelling SEARCH, or IBTL, IBTM, etc etc. The noobs all became postwhores, and the postwhores became mods. This board has become more about how many people you've had sex with and number games, over what you have in/on your ride. I searched the word SEX and came up with 2600 topics.
But you're right that the forum has changed. And while you say that it's not better or worse than before, I think it has gotten worse. I just read now and rarely post because too many topics are just rediculous. That's all in my opinion though. I still love the NE even though I hardly post I'm still part of it, in a CT/NJ kind of way. (but there aren't too many topics to post to lately).

) I totally know what you mean. Even though I didint start posting till December '02 (my first meet was the casino one, where Alex got booted!) I was around reading the site since June of '02 when I got my car.
I miss the good old days....meets at Grey's every week, meet's at Jillians followed by a latelite trip to IHOP before Jillians sucked.
Remember those weekends that consisted of Friday night at Jillians, Saturday going to Coney Island, Saturday night heading to Mario's, and then just chilling all Sunday?
Ehh, I guess it's just the effect of time...everything changes sooner or later.

Yeah, I agree with what you guys are saying, especially with Boosted2k2 comments on the state of the forum. I think it definitely was better "back then" cause everything was still fairly new. I know I was more active cause I had all these ideas for my car. But you know what? In the last two years, I've done probably 95% of the stuff I had originally planned. (I actually have in my wallet a little piece of paper with all the mods I wanted to do 2 years ago
) Interest diminishes after the project is complete, though I do have quite a few new projects lined up for the Spring which keeps me in this whole 7thgen madness.
I dont post as much on the other forums since a lot of the things have been covered over and over again, but I still look through my 15 or so forums when I'm at work to see if there is anything that catches my eye. Also, I think a lot has changed on the personal level as well. In the beginning, we were all just a bunch of dorks (no offense) with nothing to do so everyone was willing to meeting every other weekend. (And not trying to start anything with the following statements) Now as people have been finding significant others and developing little cliks, meeting up as a group is more of a "if I have nothing else better to do" than a "I cant wait for the meet". Dont mean to sound harsh, but that IMO is how things are right now.
All in all..I think Duane should come home to us.

Hehe, yeah... I remember all of that. I miss it too. I'll get back to hosting install-fests after some things are stabilized in my life. For example, I was busy with the burea of citizenship and immigration this last couple of months. Now everything is taken care of and Maggie can stay here with me.
As for the forum itself. I don't know what's going on in the Off Topic forum? I used to visit it a while back, but then it just turned into totally Off Topic with many people who don't post anywhere else in there. That kinda sucks.
The only forums I check out now are NE, Suspension Performance, and... That's pretty much it. I sometimes pop in here and there to catch up. I also check out the pics of the Member's Rides. Those are interesting to look at. Sometimes I find out about something new from those.
I'll catch the interesting topics though. I'll visit Other Parts and Products from time to time. I'll search for new DIY's. I'll visit General Ramblings and learn about something interesting that's happening in the automotive world. There's still plenty of new topics to check out. Still plenty to talk about. It's just that the old stuff keeps coming up and it's tiring to talk about it again and again. I sometimes help out newbie's, but if that would be all I do, then I would never succeed in getting rid of them. They're always more newbie's. hehe... They gotta un-newbiefy themselves if you know what I mean.
There's still a ton of things to do to my car though. I will get around to it too. I don't think I'll ever stop actually. The list of things just sitting around waiting to be done is huge. The list of things that I'm dreaming about is huge. There's always more to do to my car. I won't be bored in that respect for a very very long while.
Yeah, Duane... hehe... Turle, turle. LOL We need him back.

yeah...those were the days. i remember getting into actual serious debats in off-topic about the existence of god and why the war is dumn, etc. and then it always ended up with me debating with allman or s2000man or some mod.
lol and i remember having hot chick post battles with duane and a few guys from the NY area that would join in the fun.
for the most part i agree with how the site isnt the same anymore, like how now it seems were the old fogies, and all the people PWing now are noobs, which they are. i read off-topic almost every day and some of the people in there are just DUM dumb. i guess thats what happens when a bunch of kiddies get a civic with their new license and find the site.
i remember AIM meets late at night with tons of 7thGenners just BSing the night away. LOL
and although ive only met up with the NE crew two or three times, i look forward to more meets with the CC gang. hope im still welcome when i dont have a civic anymore. hehe
<sigh>...old times....lol

Yeah, those were the days...but all things considered, don't lose site of the fact that when we have a meet, we all pick up where we left off...
On the flip side, I really miss the Coney Island trips...I get hungry just thinking about it! And don't get me started on Mario's...and the meets we had almost every week were a significant highlight of my last couple years here in the Boston area...

I hear ya all. i have been on here for about 2 yrs now, and thing have deffinatly changed. I didnt do all the meets but when i did i had a hella time. and most of all do you remember when i had a civic and went by the name of Incacivic2001, even though i changed cars i still kept with this site because of the friends... it seems that things have fallen out for sure...
ive only had my car since august, and ive been a member here since just about then as well. unfortunatly, i wasnt around to see the good ol days of 7th gen, but from what i hear from everyone else it must have been fun. i love coming to the site, im here as much as i can. im a noob still and this is the only 7th gen i know if y aknow what i mean. i think i might be the only member from Maine?
anyway, i try to fit in, as im still learning, and i try not to post *****, but i guess sometimes maybe you gotta to get rid of the noob status. anyway im rambling, but its still cool to see everyone thats been here for so long, and i have a lot of respect for all you guys, and defintly look up to ya as far as 7th gen
ive never been to a meet either, maybe i should change that

WOW I feel at home again.
I remember 2k1civic.com.
I remember when you wouldn't have people jumpin down your throat for askin a question or having an opinion.
I remember when there were helpful people!!
I don't hate 7thgencivic.com. I love alot of the people on here. I miss being on here as much as I used to. But there have been so many new morons to join that sometimes it makes me just not feel like posting.
I love the people I've met here, ive made alot of GOOD friends. But I hate this million ads, dont post here, i'm deleting ur thread, blah blah blah you have to be uber politically correct in every post even though this is a public forum that isn't surfed by 10 year olds crap.
But oh well, things change, evolve. This is not to say that there haven't been improvements on the site. And i'm sure Derek is proud that it has grown so much...it's definitely commendable. But I miss the old days.
P.S. Sorry i'm not a Northeaster.....

Hehe... Hey there SpdRcrChk!
It's an honor to hear from you in this thread. It's kinda funny that you found it. You must read a ton of the posts on 7thgencivic.com.
