2017 Civic tank size is different than 2016

Long story short, I traded in my 2016 Civic Coupe for a 2017. The average MPG is about the same, around 40 without traffic on the highway. However, I would have an average of 470 miles to go after filling up on the 16. On the 17, I get about 425 miles. Both say tank size is 12.4 gallons. So either this is inaccurate or the MPG is less on the 17. Either way, heads up.

Cold weather, & winter fuel may be the reason.

Yeah, could be, but I was getting the mileage on the 16 in cold weather.

Does not compute.

What are the differences between the two cars themselves? 1.5t vs. 2.0? Coupe/Sedan? Trims? Tires?

What do the window stickers say for mileage?

Both are 1.5T Coupe. First was a Touring. This one is an EX-T.

Part numbers are the same for both cars' gas tanks. They are exactly the same capacity.

Identical cars with externally identical fuel tanks and different internal capacities? Has someone been making trips south of the border?

Is it possible the reserve tank on the '17 isn't as big (or even there)?

And, Honda has gone one step further to make it more idiot proof having the light come on early while a fair amount is still left in the tank.

Not technically identical. The sport and sport touring models are tuned to 180bhp. LX/EX turbo models are tuned to 174bhp.

Re: 2017 Civic tank size is different than 2016

My 2013 EX lights up like Christmas, so I put fuel in way before warning appears.

The differences in horsepower could explain the OPs fuel mileage discrepancy.
