ATTN: Chicago, Michigan, Indiana and West Ohio Peeps...possible Meet + AutoX?
Just throwing this out there, maybe I can drag some people over for this.
SUNDAY MAY 16 at the TIRE RACK in SOUTH BEND, IN
The South Bend Region SCCA is holding an AUTOCROSS on the TIRE RACK TEST TRACK. For those of you who have never seen it:

Info for it HERE
This is where Tire Rack tests everything they sell, it is probably one of the best surfaces you can race on anywhere. It's racetrack asphalt compound, Very level, very grippy. Even if you've never done it before, show up, lets turn this into a meet. It is an all day thing, its lots of fun, and we can see who can really drive.
Anyone interested, just post, or PM or get a hold of me. I'll answer whatever questions you have regarding classing, necessary equipment, stuff about the car, parts, whatever you want to know.

For anyone going... can we come up with someplace to meet? I don't know who's for sure going. I'm hoping to crash at a friends place in Elkhart, a couple guys I know are coming from Fort Wayne.
Last time we met at some restaurant off the toll road... meet there again? Somewhere else? Just go to the rack?

Its not a "road track", its a very small scale road track if you want to call it that, but its not like Gingerman or Grattan if thats what you're thinking of.
Its $25 and you need to be registered before 930.
This is probably one of the best surfaces to autocross on in the area. It has 2 downsides, its not very big, but it draws a huge crowd.
If you've never done it, it would be a good place to start. I did my first one at the Tire Rack. The fact that the track is lined with grass and the cones just point you in the right direction makes it a bit unique, but its a lot easier your first time to just drive on pavement, rather than sort through rows and rows of cones your first time. Its impossible to not have fun.

Boilermaker: I have a cat-back exhaust, intake, and strut-tower bars. What class would I be running in??
How much to register there, what do I need to bring, and anything else you can tell me cool?

bah, damn this stupid website, I typed out this great answer and it lost it.
Anyways....
if you pull the intake and strut bars, you can run in H-stock. This is wise especially if you have stock tires.
If you leave it all on, then you'll run STS.
Either is fine... I run STS, but my whole suspension is done. If I remembered how to drive the car like I did the end of last season, i might be fast too.
The entry is $25 day of... there is no advance discount.
I'd bring at the minimum...
Car
You
Entry Fee
A snell M90 or newer helmet (they have loaners if you don't have one)
Windex/paper towels
Hat
sunscreen
lawn chair
lunch/junkfood
water
tire gauge
If you have an air tank, thats not a bad idea, white shoe polish for marking tires is another good idea, but you can bump that off me if you need some... I've got some super cheap stuff that can actually be scrubbed off if you try... the name brand shoe polish doesn't come off.

meeting at that perkins right off the toll road exit wouldnt be too bad... thats where we met up last time... but its almost just as easy to have everyone just go to the rack itself and meet there.. but if we wanted to roll in a few cars deep it would be better to meet up at the perkins... lemme know if you want help getting this together.. i was just there today for the finish of the one lap and to get some ccw's mounted and balanced...

What exit was that?
I'll tell the Fort Wayne guys, one guy has a B20Z EG, the other a 240SX, me and my friend are coming from Elkhart, you and whoever you're coming with, and if the Chicago guys who want to go all meet up we can have a decient group. Just gimme some numbers by Thursday, and for now we'll say that Perkins at 8 AM.
I'll be at the Rack on Friday afternoon to get some new street tires as well.
Where's your shop at Snakey? Maybe I'll swing by afterwards....

I'm not sure on the number but it is the notre dame 331/933 exit and at that stop light you'll turn left to see the perkins on your left... you can't miss it.. if you see the stop light... you'll see the perkins... simple... i'm not sure how many i will have... we are hopefully putting the motor back in the rx-7 on sat but i doubt it'll get done so i dont know if he will go or not.. he has a 7thgen too... but i might have my buddy with a Superformance (Shelby Replica) Cobra thats just absolutely nuts... but who knows... what time do you think we should plan to meet there??? you or anyone who is interested in going can hit me up on im at Ryan3671 or email me at SinisterCivic02@yahoo.com and i can help you out with any directions you might need...
I'll be coming from elkhart myself so if you wanted to meet from there and go i'd be willing to do that too...
As for going to my shop.. the showroom isnt open this season.. we are going to take a summer to have fun and work on our own cars and some of are best customers cars so there really wouldnt be much to look at... if you knew the clientel around here you'd want to take time off two.. not many people who are really serious about it.. but those that are... look out... hahah

P.S. for the easiest directions.. you might just try a mapquest to tirerack and then to meet us all at the perkins you'll go past that exit and look for the notre dame exit.. next one after that i do believe... or just hang out there and we can all eventually end up there...

Well I'm now coming from Fort Wayne alone. Yay for leaving at 6am. If you want to meet me somewhere, we need to do it about 8:00, because I've got wheels to change. If not, then I'll meet you at the Rack, just look for a car that looks like the one in the sig.... I assure you, its not too hard to spot

hey guys whats up. i talked my dad into it and were coming up. he didnt like the idea of me "racing" my car but i explained what an autocross is and he is really excited now. so you have to be at the autocross by 9:30. and what do you need the shoe polish for? i have wheels and tires, front and rear strut tower bars. a drop with koni shocks in the rear camber kit and carbon fiber hood. will i still be in the class you listed above the one you are in or will i be in a higher class. this is my first time even going to an auto cross. i know im gonna suck but its gonna be fun.

If you have the stock hood, PUT IT ON!!!!!!!!!
Its the difference between Street Modified and STS. Believe me you want to be in STS.
The STS rules don't allow for any weight reduction, so a CF hood is against the rules.
If not, its your first time, no big deal, your goal is to beat someone, anyone, driving something.
Don't worry about the shoe polish, I've got some. You use it to mark your tires to check and see if the pressures are holding the tire from rolling over.... just a little trick because street tires tend to have sidewalls that give more than you want them to. I'd also plan on being there way before 930. 930 is when registration closes. 830-900 is a good time to arrive, it'll give you time to orient yourself, get everything unpacked and ready, register and tech your car, we'll take a little 7th gen course walk and go to it.
BTW for everyone: Due to construction on Nimitz Parkway, there's a detour. I was up there yesterday, the detour is marked, but not so clearly if you're from out of town....
here's the directions they supply
http://www.sbrscca.org/news/NIMTZCLOSED.Detours.Map.pdf
Now.... let me just point out that when you turn onto Olive, theres signs that say road closed ahead... ignore them, you can get to the Tire Rack, its past there where its closed.
I plan on having both a DV video camera AND a Digital Still there.... is anyone bringing someone we can designate a photo taker?
I'll see you all there bright and early tomorrow. I'll stick my car along the fence by the toll road and park way out so hopefully there's still room as people start showing up.

Don't forget there's an hour time difference. 4 AM there is 3am here.... you really don't have to leave until 5ish, if thats any consolation.... and mapquest usually overestimates the time. You can probably take the Toll Road all the way to exit 72, then just get off and follow the PDF directions above. The tire rack is literally 400 feet off the toll road, you just need to drive around the detour to get there. Given the speed limit is 65 (which is what mapquest goes by) and the fact that everyone does 75ish, you should be there in 4 ish.

you'll be kicking your self later!
