Need to know about 97-00 Civic (D16Y8) Transmission/Head fitting 2k1 Civic LX (D17A)

Parents bought me a 2001 Civic LX automatic, so far I've done Injen Cold-Air Intake and Thermal R&D Cat-back exhaust. I need to know if anyone has any information about the transmission and head unit from a 97-00 Civic EX fitting my car. I figured they might because they're the same engine code and the only thing different is the displacement *as far as I know*, they're both SOHC, etc.

Any information would be useful.

two totally different trannys. the 7thgen tranny is the cable-type and all the other civics have rod-type trannys. the swap is not worth the money. shoulda just bought a 7thgen that was already manual

Yeah, too bad my dad was stubborn and didn't let me have a manual or an EX, too bad it wasn't my choice. but thanks for the input ^_^. if the tranny's are different would that really matter? i mean it's all how they hook up to the driveshaft right? *note: knows nothing about transmissions, only really knows somewhat about engines*

I almost didn't even get a five speed, i had to pay my dad 600 dollars (the equivalent of a new clutch for when i burn out the one it came with) . I ended up with the LX becuase it waz "practical" , and a 1000 $ less. no choice in the V-tech matter!!!

the 00 SI has the b series, the rest of the civics have the d series motor. As far as the fit goes, i dunno, i think the cylinders are bigger on our motor, thus its possible it wouldnt seat right.

and for more compression u could always look into changing ur pistons to another OLDER d16 piston like the pm7 piston which has a huge dome on it...or even a d16a6 piston which has a flat top i duno about clearance issues with the longer stroke of the d17 though ud probably be one of the first to mess with it

Yes, VTEC is not even noticable. How are you liking the thermal catback?
