2002 HX coupe, MT.. looking for better MPG's
This car is bone stock other than a stock replacement clutch, new tires, new spark plugs, it has 146k miles, burns/leaks no oil, and a stock replacement air filter. I am replacing the #2 and #3 02 sensors this weekend, the car currently gets 40mpg's without the AC on and that is literally all hwy driving. I'm wanting to increase the MPG's so I have been thinking about a CAI with the AEM dry filter (from what I've read is the best for these cars). Any other recommendations? Car has to pass a state inspection with no sniff test. Car still has the factory HX wheels with stock sized tires.

Switch to the skinniest LRR tires that are the same circumference as the originals? (use a tire size calculator)

Lighten car will help, too.
Honestly, 40mpg with no AC is really good. I get ~32mpg mixed city/highway atm

literally all hwy driving
I get far better mileage at 45-55 than I do at 75-85 (well maaaybe 90+ depending on traffic)

40MPG's is actually really good i see Your using a AEM (DRY) performance Filter
Good choice there, and you have changed spark plugs, not sure if Your 2002
is equipped with a (Mass Air Flow Sensor) or not? if it does? make sure its clean if
it hasn't been cleaned in a long while ( as in Years) take it off and use only Mass Air Flow
Sensor cleaner. comes in a spray can. take the sensor off and use some CRC
M.A.F.S cleaner on it (Let it dry for 15-20 minutes before You start Your engine.)
i did mine on my 2008 Civic DX and believe it or not picked up a slight increase
in mileage and Performance from just cleaning it...
