Vtec not kicking in?

I have a d17a2, changed the oil and everything and it still doesn't perform and sound like the VTEC is kicking in....I was reading that i should try to clean the vtec screen? I'm at 120k miles...and i wanted to start tuning it a bit...(changing timing belt and stuff but i have little to no experience with that type of maintenance, so im going to buy all the parts and go to a mechanic to install it)

but i was searching through the forums the vtec cleaning was on older models, and B series engines...

Is it different on taking this vtec off the d17 and cleaning it then the b series?

and if i do, do this is there anything else i should clean by it? and/or to tune anything else besides the timing belt, tensioner, water pump? That will help and give this car alot more life?

Sorry for all the questions before hand, im new to this, and wanting to learn hands on, so i know how to do the simple tuning and saving alot of money, and giving it more life.

Re: Vtec not kicking in?

if the engine light is off, vtec should be working normally. not that you can feel or hear it anyways.
