exedy clutch and flywheel
So after searching for a bit, I couldn't find much on exedy clutch and flywheel combinations. I'm looking at either of these 2 for a replacement:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXEDY-OEM-CL...ht_3133wt_1185
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXEDY-OEM-CL...ht_3492wt_1185
The clutch looks fine, and I've seen some reviews on here about it, but what about the flywheel? There seem to be several different types of materials they are made of and they come in different weights. I understand the difference between the weight, but what about the material? Has anyone had problems with flywheels like these? Should I spend the extra 10 bucks and get the aluminum over the chromly?

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
Stick with the chromolly. Yes, the aluminum FW has replaceable steel faced inserts and pressed on rings, but I cannot see how that would provide better performance than a one piece steel flywheel the same weight, +/-1lb. I've hard more bad than good, with the aluminum. I've been using a 11.9lb ACT Streetlite for the past 5 years. Solid, no issues. Going with an 8.8lb Competition Clutch FW next week. THM has the ACT for $150ish and the Exedy OEM under $100. That would be a better combo, IMHO.

Speaking of installs... I'm going to find a shop that can do it for me, but what do you guys think is a fair price? My uncle told me like 500-600, but on here some people were sayin like 300 after some searching. Going to call around tomorrow to get some quotes

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
Okay... so I've called like 20 places. One place quotes me at 600 and like 3-4 of them are in the high 400's and 2 low ones at around 300. The $300 places say 300+ "whatever fluids we'll need". What kinda fluids will they need and what should I even expect that cost? The rest told me to basically **** off because they don't install other peoples parts :/

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
If you're still looking for someone to do the clutch, let me know and I'll see if my friend would have time to do it and how much he'd charge. He's the one who swapped my motor and put in a new clutch in my car when my motor blew back in October.
Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
This may seem a bit off topic, but what did you get your motor swapped with?

Another D17A2...While I would love a K-Swap, it's pretty low on the needs list right now.

HA! no. This is just my commuter car with a few mods when it was more than that. Been spending more time just fixing **** that's breaking than doing performance mods.

. I've been wanting to buy stuff off of Triz for a while now so I can't decide what to do
I was going to put the order in for the clutch, but now idk if I should just let it completely die before I replace it because there's other fun car parts I'd like to get lol Joined: Feb 2006

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
How bad is it slipping? I drove on mine for about two years after it started being slippery when starting and when accelerating hard. Honestly thought I'd have to replace the clutch long before I had to replace the engine, but then again things never work out like you think.
Either way, I'll give him a call and see if he'd be up for it, just so you have an idea. When he did it he worked at a shop, but he had to leave that job so he'd be working out of his house. Damn good mechanic though, Swapped out my engine in my car and it started on the very first turn of the key.
And yeah, I wish I could get ahold of Triz. Want to buy some Coilovers and would rather buy his than cheap ebay Rokkors or CXracing ones. I had him on myspace but I deleted my account there years ago so I don't have any way to contact him IRL

Too bad he doesn't have a workshop anymore. Feel kinda bad if he'd have to do it all in his driveway
I've been all over Triz for the past few years about his coilovers. One year i was going to buy them, then school **** came up so I couldnt, then I dropped off here for a while and now i'm back lol.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
It's not slipping terribly just occasionally when I accelerate from 2nd to 3rd. The problem I'm having mostly is that it doesn't engage correctly. Its like when I throw it in gear the transition off the clutch isnt smooth. Dunno how to describe it really... it just doesnt feel right. I'll have to try to show you someday.

And the guy does have a garage to park his car at his house so it wouldn't be in the driveway necessarily.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel

Good thing he has a garage, cause the weather has been pretty bad lately. On a side note think he could help me out with some other small technical issues? The fog lights that we wired don't work anymore :'( I think its cause of how we had it wired. Also, I wanted to get the stupid gas gauge to work since I never got it working since the cluster swap.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
Nah, I doubt it. My engine had a slight knock coming from it for a while, so I was expecting it. I'm thinking it's either your transmission syncros or your clutch might just be glazed over. Motor mounts may be something to look at as well.
The fog lights should be a simple fix...Shouldn't be hard to re-trace the wiring and go from there. The gas gauge though...I wonder if maybe that cluster isn't bad. Maybe we'll have to swap your cluster into my car and see if it works then.

I could probably re-wire them myself, but I have no idea where to splice into to give them power. I'm a total nub at electrical. Also, if you remember when I brought my car over we swapped clusters. Mine worked in yours just fine, but vise versa your gas guage didn't work on mine which left us both stumped.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
****, I did forget. I will do some searching and see what I can find about the electrics involved with the fuel system, maybe compare resistance/voltage between your car and mine

haha it was a long time ago when we checked it. If you can't figure out anything I think i'll take it to the dealership and have them figure it out but not have the work done there xD

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced it's the sending unit attached to the pump...If we did swap clusters, and your cluster worked in my car, but my cluster didn't work in yours, we can rule out the cluster itself is bad. My gas gauge still works so I know it's not something that causes the cluster to short-circuit the gas gauge...Really only leaves that sending unit as the main culprit. And it's a known issue apparently, so I'll start focusing research on seeing what it'd cost to replace and how to do it.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
That'd make sense, but is that something that can be DIY? I looked around a bit and on older civics it looks like you can, but idk about the 05.

Re: exedy clutch and flywheel
Best bet would probably to get the whole assembly used and just swap it in. Just found one at a wrecking yard in Gresham for $60, says it's been tested as working

Yeah, it'd be the easiest way IMO.

Are they grey colored or black? Going to get the rears to match?
