Exhaust Parts Pricing

Having recently installed a warm air intake in my 1999 Civic Ex, I've decided to improve the exhaust system of my vehicle. I currently plan on purchasing an aftermarket exhaust manifold and catback exhaust system.

Searching about the internet, I found two parts that appear to be exactly what I want, and while I find the price on them low, I want to know if they aren't "too low." I have hardly done any part shopping online and I am not sure about fair pricing and quality products for Honda Civics.

I have provided here the links to the parts and would be happy for any advice regarding the manufacturer and pricing.

I don't know, seems pretty cheap. I would stick with DC Sports, Greddy, Magnaflow, A'Pexi, or Pacesetter. But I've also heard that Megan's stuff is pretty good for the price.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

i have a cheap ebay header (like $116 shipped) and it's been on for over a year with no problems so i think that header would be fine, but i wouldn't go cheap on the exhaust if i were you or it will probably sound like ****, if you want cheap just buy a good universal muffler (WS2 or HKS or something) and get custom piping welded on.

Yeah, I see what you're saying about the difference between a cheap header and catback; definitely will look into those.

You can also look into Tsudo exhaust. I have a tsudo 5zigen fireball cat back and it sounds really good.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

I've been looking at pricing on many of these other cat backs and they definitely look higher quality. The only reason why I would be reluctant to purchase one of them is I'm not looking at getting the cat back for performance or power increase (I'll take some if I get it of course ^^.) but instead for commuting over sound and power. Is cheaper better for that intent or still a poor choice?

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

Well cheaper might be even louder, and not as good sounding, if you want a quiet, good performing muffler check out Walker quiet flow mufflers, I've seen them at Summit's website.

Yeah, I do hear that. Before posting here I had checked out Walker; definitely a solid purchase.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

Yeah, I have a 7th gen. My manifold/cat cracked, so since that unit costs so much, I replaced it with a DC race header that I bought used, and a DC cat-back. It's a little too loud for me for the 100mi /day commuting I do. And the performance gain isn't really worth the noise. I'm hoping a silencer will make it better, if not, I'll probably try to sell the setup and go back to stock. Just to give you an idea of what I've gone through with changing my exhaust/header.

The thing does scream once you get it above 4000 RPM though, but not much improvement any lower than that.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

Yeah, I guess I'll have to see; off of Ebay, I can get both parts I want for 168$ because of a package deal. Extremely cheap and the cat back exhaust does come with a silencer so it shouldn't be too bad.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

Is that a real racing header which eliminates the cat, or do you have to have your cat in between the header and the cat-back? It looks like it eliminates the cat because of the 2 piece header design. but it looks like the header has a 2 bolt flange on it, while the cat-back looks like it has 3 bolt flange. If that's the whole setup I would say to try it out, for that price you won't be losing much if you don't like it.

Re: Exhaust Parts Pricing

Yes, I think so; and yeah, for that price, its not a huge deal if it doesn't work out.
