no catalytic converter = engine light?
no catalytic converter = engine light?
hello,
put headers in about 3 weeks ago and the past week the car was in the shop getting new clutch. i got it back two days ago or so and im driving around and all of the sudden the engine light comes on. before i take it to a code reading thing i was wondering....since my new headers eliminated my catalytic converter do you think the second plug (that originallly went into the cat) is giving a bad reading or what. bc right now both 02 plugs are going into one header.. i dont know. if so would it even take a few weeks for the computer to realise there is no cat? please help

Yup the purpose of the second O2 sensor is to determine if the cat is working. In earlier generation civics I'm told that the 2nd O2 reading is averaged with the 1st O2 sensor and that's used to determine fuel. So if your 2nd O2 is gone (not clear from your post if it is) you might be running rich in addition to throwing a CEL.
I don't know if it's a concern for you or not but throwing this CEL will cause emission testing to fail and eliminating the cat is not legal in my state.
