Exhaust queston please help

i been thinking ab getting a new exhaust, i want to go with kanikaze header, 2 1/4 stainless pipes, randon tech cat and apext n1 muffler. The reason i need help is bc i read a post on here, some one installed an evo2 exhaust and he lost power, accelertaion and torque, he says he lost back prussure because of the diameter of the piping is to large. If i get thais exhaust i want to will i loose power accleration ect ? My friend says vtec's need back pressure so they don't loose power ect. After reading that post i donn exactally what i should do ab my exhaust stay stock but get a header high flow cat and new muffler or just redo everthing, Any sugestion would really help.

if you can, please ask your friend to explain this one for me...

by installing a aftermarket exhaust assuming its piping size is over 2.25", your car would lose low end power (torque) but improve at the high end. i hear alot of stories about back pressure give you your low end, but i took it from a vendor here that its the shapes and bends of the pipes that create back pressure that helps gain your low end. therefore, the evo2 could've probably have either/and large diameter piping or just lack of design of bends to create power on thruout the entire powerband. in most cases, installing an exhaust catback will give u better high end, but rob your low end. just like an intake. but an intake does more damage on the low end compared to exhaust.

when you go do custom piping, 2.25" seems ideal to aim for. make sure you choose the good piping. i heard of mandrel/crushed/etc. idk my pipes, sorry.

kamakazi header, random tech cat, muffler and 2.25" pipes... id conclude that your mid-high rpm powerband would be good but your low end would suck. i would recommend a race header if your looking for gains. but then again, if you didnt know by now, bolt-on mods dont do much for us. its usually 1-2 hp for each bolt on we do. and thats considered useless to most

I know bolt on mod's don't give many gain's. I allready have the header and muffler, I do want to do something with my exhaust, i want to go satinless but Do Not want to loose power, torque, or accleration. Maby i should get a new down pipe with high flow cat. What should i do ab the rest of the exhaust ?

midnightblueEX has a little shameless behaviour in the past
on a side note, if i wanted to get a muffler and connect it to the stock exhaust, what size would it need to be to direct fit?

I just installed a Greddy EVO2 on my 02 Civic EX - and the RPM flows a lot faster now - no low end torque loss nor power.

If anything it's a major gain - I also have an Injen Cold Air Intake installed and will be getting the AEM Pulley kit installed soon.

I love the Greddy EVO2 - have now complaints at all - not too loud - nice deep tone.

Later,
Mike

sound quality = muffler
loudness = resonator

if you removed the resonator and paired it up with a generic/big tuneable muffler, then its gonna sound like *** of course.

most diameter of piping on aftermarket exhaust systems are usually 2.3-2.5" and sometimes 2.5+ for racing/turbo applications.

if you plan to go with the apexi n1 route, i would just buy the catback system which is probably $470 shipped? www.importhorizon.com is the best price ive seen them go for. if you buy the muffler ($200), aftermarket resontaor ($50-$100?) and then do the custom piping from the cat to the muffler ($150), you might as well buy the apexi n1 system and it'll sound good for sure. i believe the piping on the n1 catback is 2.4" lesser or fewer?

i allready have the muffler and i'm waiting to get a call from stainless works to let me know when i can drop my car off. Their doing 2 1/4 304 stainless with 3/8 flanges, hangers and random tec cat, havent decided if i want a resignator yet but if i do the'll custom make it with flanges so i can remove it if i want to. I got them to do my exhaust on my 70 chevelle i don't know how to explan their quality of work, better than any cat back you can buy. Ya it might be more expensive but you're getting a better product.

i bought a apex knockoff for $40, took it down to the shop, cut off the resonator and stuck it on... i just had new piping done from the rear section... i think my sounds great... it doesn't sound like a damn bee!! haha!!
i've had alot of people say that my civ is one of the best they've heard... ist kinda low toned and aggressive... but i havent got a header yet.. .which i plan on doing so i'm sure it will be a hell of a lot louder after that... cuz i have an lx... and that means the cat. is coming off
