DC headers
DC headers
whats up guys?
I'm plannin on gettin headers for my vic sometime soon and i was lookin into the DC ones, but idk which i want, the 4-1 or the 4-2-1... i've read that the 4-1 is more for a racing application, whereas the 4-2-1 distributes the power more evenly for an every-day drive, any input would be appreciated
Thanks!

dc is terrible imo. Looks EXACTLY like stock. I would definately go with kamikaze 4-1 design from www.bigjoshracing.com it gave me more low/mid power over the ebay header I had before. That brand is known to make the most power on civics.
im not all that worried about how it looks, what im worried about is the power its gonna give me... i dont wanna buy something thats only gonna give me a power boost at the redline, if you know what im sayin, and i've heard that's what the 4-1's do, and i know this guy who got DC and says its awesome, but idk which kind he got, i guess i could talk to him and see what he thinks, but i know someone out there knows what a DC feels like...

well just look at pics here and you'll see it's the same diameter as stock, even the bends are the same. But yea ask around I know it's been discussed before.

do not buy the DC Header for a D17 .... If you plan on doing that, just buy $225 worth of neons because you'll get the same HP increase ... I made the mistake of buying it when I first got my car because DC had a great reputation for power on their B-series headers .... well, this D17 is FAR from a B-series and this header=stock except the coating ... If you dont get the kamikaze, buy a cheap one off ebay and spend the saved money on something worthwhile (you could buy me a BOV) ...

its not the same as the stock. the pipes are different in bend, and the primaries are actually longer in length.. the diameter is also a bit bigger.
but of course it'll have to be like stock, else how will it fit. all the other offerings are like stock too, 'cept they have bigger pipping diameter..
all the header offering for the D17 is rather worthless though. dont expect any power boost because of how the stock header on the EX was made.. there doesnt leave any room for changing the flow characteristic to shift power to desired rpm ranges.
but yeah the DC is a waste for the D17. its a heavy 225 without any real power gains. at least none u'll feel. maybe a 1-2 whp somewhere along the lines.
do a search. the more worthwhile ones are the kamikaze or similiar style ones or the LX/DX models.
there is the HP race header style for the EX, but that involves some tricky installation.. and the removal of the stock cat = loud and pollution.

ok, so not much hp gains from DC, how about low end torque? thats what im really worried about, im not expecting a huge boost in hp... and besides a store around here is going out of buisness (just this location) and they are selling the 4-2-1 DC header for $100, and the other locations will back up their company's warranty, policies, etc. so even if its not the greatest, do y'all think its worth $100?? lol, thanks for the input all
(all i'm really wanting it to do is counter the loss i'm taking with my tanabe)
btw, i drive a '99 ex coupe 6th gen

from nopi, i found a "#1 by HP racing"... what is that? is that still HP? cuz its only like $150.... here's the url, check it out and tell me what you think...

edit: that actual site doesnt show what i'm talkin about, enlarge the pic, its in the graphic... lol

Yea they should be but sometimes there are replicas which are same design but generic brand. Try to get the real thing imo. But yea hp would be good and on your car it will do alot more than on ours (D17 01+ vic).
www.horsepowerfreaks.com have the hp shorty and race header for d17.
170 shipped for hp shorty cermaic 4-1. clearance sale

ok next question, which is better for an every day (non racing) application, 4-1 or 4-2-1? i really need the low end power more than the high end
and HP won't require any modification of the engine mounts will it? (i didnt really want to do that.... lol too much work)
thanks for all the help guys

with my 4-1 I noticed more low/mid power instead of hi end. The 4-2-1 isn't really a good design for newer cars anymore.
If you get the full hp race header with hi flow cat then yes it requires cutting the motor mount unless you lift the engine out. The 4-1 shorty header doesn't require modification. Maybe a new gasket $5 from honda, but that's it.

ok, so w/o having to cut my mount, a shorty header would work, but then id hafta get a downpipe somewhere, right? well id prolly just have the muffler shop make me one while they're doin my piping for my exhaust -- good idea? ...bad idea?
also this is prolly a no, but with a whole race header, would the muffler shop be able to put it in w/o much trouble? idk if they'd even mess with it, seeing as how this isnt a muffler lol
sorry for the stupidity
, im new to the whole performance mod thing, ive been doin mostly visual mods in the past, i really appreciate the help also if someone who has this header on their car and has done the mod necessary, would you mind posting a pic? i went and looked under my hood a minute ago, and there's a ton of room, i cant imagine this not fitting in there... maybe is that a difference between 6th gen and 7th gen? the only thing that might possiby be in the way is the radiator hose, but im sure that could be moved out of the way if it needed to be
pics are great for the ignorant
