I got a RSX Type S stock exhaust. You can get it for less than $100 and it has better flow and sounds and looks stock. You can feel improvements in all of the rev range. All you have to do is modify the midpipe to conect with your cat and extend the tip to match your bumper. A good muffler shop would make it for less than $40.

The ebay exhausts are so cheap, what makes DC sports and Greddy so much better that they cost so much more? Are you just paying for the name or is there something physically better about them?

a lot of what you're paying for is product development. The big companies spend lots and lots of money making sure their product works and fits exactly like it should. The knock-off ebay brands just copy everyone else's work. No R&D means much lower costs. Also, name brands are usually made in countries where labor isn't relatively cheap (U.S., Japan) whereas knock-offs come from the land of ultra-cheap labor (China).

Take a look at the Flowmaster Force II axle back. Yes I said Flowmaster... heheh. I have one and few others here have them. For me, it sounds just right, just a tiny bit louder then stock but with a nice throaty tone. Its loud enough to let you know its there, but not obnoxious and you can still hold a conversation while at highway speeds. It comes with a nice tip to, not all ricey looking.

Here's a link:

http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...ter/17335.html

However, it supposedly wont fit on EX models with a swaybar without having some pipe work done. Mine was just the muffler(Delta 60 series, same thing as the Force II) that I have welded on.

Materials, Construction, Internal guts, R&D and something thats tuned for the car rather than a universal thermos bottle. They also have a tendency to fit rather than having to rig it up to fit.

for $100-$200 u could get a decent "performance" muffler, and have a muffler shop bend 2.25" cat-muffler piping and weld the muffler to that for about $100 labor including pipes.

If you want a cheap and decent cat-back exhaust, Megan Racing cat-back ~$300

The Exhaust won't connect directly to the cat, some fabrication has to be done, also the rsx is shorter, so you have to extend the tail pipe a bit to match the bumper. The Type S exhaust comes with a nice tip you can fit in the 2.5" tail pipe. Mine's a DX so I extended the 2" pipe all the way to the front. If you look at the pipe pic from front, you see that the rsx midpipe ends after the first bend, while the civic ex ends after the second bend. The rest of the system fits the same position without any problem. The Resonator is bigger as well as the muffler the system isn't loud. I paid $40 for the install and modification, including the pipe extension.

A friend with a turbo RSX Type S, he installed HKS 3" cat-back, so he sold me the stock unit very cheap. You can check on clubrsx.com, i bet there are a lot of owners willing to sell their stock units. Less than $100 plus installation and modifiction.

I dont get it either, its a stock exhaust from another car, especially formatted for that specific car, not ours. So i dont really see how it would help that much.

The exhaust is basically the same shape as the civic exhaust, but the muffler and resonator are bigger as well as the piping....giving higher flow....basically the same thing as getting an aftermarket exhaust....bigger piping, but by getting a used one, not brand new, you can save a lot...you can get a used full RSX Type S catback system for less than $100 unlike a new one or an aftermarket exhaust. All you have to do is modify two things to make it fit perfectly.

hey, what if you got the cheap stainless Tsudo exhaust off Ebay then eventually weld a pretty good muffler on it afterwards, like an Apex'i or a DC muffler? In the long run it might be cheaper then getting the full cat-backs from these guys and paying around $500. What do you think?
