tanabe exhaust... HELP!

Hey guys whats up? I'm a newbie to the forum. I've been reading from here for a while, just as a guest though. But hey, I have a question for y'all. I'm drivin a '99 civic EX (I think that's 6th gen, but close enough you guys should be able to help, I hope.) A few days ago, a buddy of mine asked me if I wanted to buy a brand new, in the box Tanabe Racing Medallion muffler for $90, seeing as how the going price from the company is more like $240 I took him up on the offer. The only problem is it's got a 80mm inlet (roughly 3 inches). I'm gonna get a local muffler shop to make me custom pipes, but I'm worried the big diameter is going to rob me of some power. Do y'all think it's gonna hurt that much or should I try to get them to see if they can put 2.75" or 2.5" piping behind the 3" muffler?

I also thought about leaving the stock cat to give it a little more backpressure in stead of adding a highflow cat. Another friend of mine said that the shop might be able to put the 3" piping from the muffler to my resonator, and then convert the piping down to 2.5" at the engine side of the resonator, with the stock cat still installed -- Will that even work?

Obviously, I need some suggestions, and from reading what you guys have to say, I think y'all will be able to help me.

Thanks!

ok well the muffler you bought is more than likely an imitation. so as far as the piping no you will not lose any power by bolting the muffler on. 3'' piping is entirely to big for an n/a civic so don't do that! 2.5'' so be about right. this setup should be fine. good luck.

even 2.5 in piping is too big, nevermind the 3". the muffler will be ok, but have the shop do a 2.25 diameter...

yea...i wouldnt go with 3 inch custom piping....unless you gotta boost your car. and by the way...on a civic ex u will not get much of a gain with anything. unless you boost your car. so i wouldnt worry bout it that much. but i if i were u i wouldnt waste my money on a 3 inch piping. get 2.5 or 2.25
