B&M cooler
Need help, I’m getting B&M oil cooler for my AT civic. The following would be my choice, do you think this size of cooler will fit in between radiator fan? I want an easy cooler without take out the front bumper….any other recommended cooler out there.
Thanks,
B&M SUPERCOOLER A/T COOLER KIT: 11" x 6" x 1-1/2" ( 70264 )

I'm mostly stock, some engine mods, making 100whp. Our tranny is very weak and every bit helps. I have no problems with the cooler...in fact shifts are very solid.
For the install, the hardest part was figuring out which hoses hook where and trying to connect them. All I did was loosen the side mounts on the radiator or condenser to make a tiny bit of room to fit the cooler. Then tighten back up. Only thing was I had to partially take off the front bumper so I could unscrew the top grill and have room to work. It took prolly a good 2 hrs but that's just figuring stuff out mostly. It's not a hard install.

I'm looking into getting the B&M for my '01 HX with CVT. I've recently had a problem where maintaining speed at 50 mph the car will want to 'stutter' between gears. And this only happens when the car has been running for 30 minutes or so. Do you think that this and a tranny fluid change will clear up my problem?

Your cvt already has an oil cooler I'm almost positive. If you haven't already, tranny fluid should be changed every 15k miles. And technically your car doesn't have gears. It's made up of a belt driven pulley system that allows for "infinite gears" thus you shouldn't feel a pause between switches. I wouldn't worry about it unless the check engine light comes on. There alot of codes for tranny malfunction.
Well I have a check engine light but that's because I have the megan racing cat delete. And I've been reading an article about how the CVT works. Looks like it uses oil pressure to adjust the pulley width between the driving and driven side so I have a whole other can of worms to look into. I will have to look for that tranny cooler because I don't remember seeing one unless it is located in the tranny case.

it's a separate cooler much like an aftermarket model, at least that's what the service manual said when I was looking up oil flow direction through the hoses.
Sure enough I do have one. It's mounted below my right headlight which explains why I never noticed it before. I think I'm gonna check my tranny fluid level after I get off work. Right now it's 4:30 in the am so it's a little hard to see.

I'm pretty sure the auto already has a cooling loop built into the radiator. The older ones had a dual core radiator with the ATF running through a line in the radiator. If not, oh well, I'm wrong. But I'm piecing my own oil cooler together. Same principle. My advice is to put it in front of everything where it can get the coolest air possible. The radiator is huge, this is small in comparison, give it as big a temp differential as possible. I'm bolting mine to the lower radiator crossmember and its 11x5.75x1.5, so your cooler is of comparable size.
As long as it fits, bigger is never a bad idea. If it starts running too cool (believe it or not there is such a thing), then you can always tape over some of the grid.
For size comparison....

gearbox... did you really feel a difference when you mounted it behind the rad? And where did you get the kit to connect it all from?

the b&m comes with everything. Actually I mounted it between the rad and condenser. Didn't need any bolts. Then just attached hoses. Did you read the links I posted earlier in the thread? They have all the info. It does feel different, especially for long trips. Nothing like more power, just shifts feel good. And since 95% of trannys fail from heat, its good to have especially with our crappy trans.

ya I read through the first link you posted but got lazy on the second one. I noticed you did say it helps shifting but do you think it might work better if you mounted it infront of the rad so air is hitting it directly?
Also I just noticed your kit (70264) does come with the installation kit where as the one i was looking at (70265) doesn't.
Can you tell me what exactly came with the kit? Was it just a couple of hoses and some clamps or was it more to it?
Thanks

it was more, most of it I didn't even use. The cooler is just sitting there sandwiched. Nothing holding it, and all I needed was one hose (I reused stock for the other one), and some clamps. There's nothing to it.

Cool...
anyways, after reading this... I went down to my local shop (Unauthorized Performance) and ordered the Fluidyne tranny cooler kit. Comes with everything I need and is 12 x 5 x 3/4 in size so it should be close to the B&M one that you have.
Also, it only cost me $50 CDN
