HKS Exhuast??
ok...i got a stock 2001 civic EX (automatic
) ....i really want to put a good exhaust system on it and i was talked out of OBX cuz theyre crappy. Im planning on getting an HKS Hi-Power system (i think it only comes with the rear section). I know exhuast systems decrease back pressure and that its a good thing, but i was told that it may slow down my acceleration or something....is this true? if so, how much? In the end id like to know if purchasing an HKS exhaust for my stock civic is a good idea and what effects (good and/or bad) it will have for me
P.S. plz forgive a newb for askin'

hks hi-power exhaust IS a rear section for the 01+civics
as for backpressure, i would say thats more of a good thing because thats what helps you moving on up. from time i been on these boards, everyone loved their hks hi-power exhaust. its not loud, not low, just the right level of sound. the sound it gives is deep and not rapsy at all. comming from HKS, they are very high quality products.
pros:
cocked muffler that sits slanted
sound
looks
cons:
price tag for just an rear section
low end is little loss? <--- not sure but i doubt it
theirs a clip of the hks in the exhaust forum. its stickied
and wrong forum. ibtm

backpressure is non-existant. Its not that your piping is too small and the pressure builds up causing your block to crack - NO. Its about the physics of flow. If pipes are bent with jagged edges, the flow of hot exhaust will slow down and hit places. This will cause worse performance and will crack the exhaust piping at some point.
The HKS has great bends and will not decrease your acceleration. You will like its sound and the bit of power bump it will give. The butt dyno will be happy.

I have the HKS Hi-Power, and I love it. The sound is sexy, not annoying like a freaking bee in a can, nore to loud like flowmaster. It’s perfect, very easy to install, and great quality. Its perfect with our vics to, bc its not like a full catback will actually do anything anywaz for our cars, unless u plan on turbo or swap. You should get, no doubt.
i use to have this exhaust, and i love it. The sound is great !!!
ppl say you don't gain much, but when i took the exhaust out, i can feel my car is slower. It might not do much, but it did something to begin with.

i want to get this exhuast as well.. but, im 16 low on cash... and just bought an intake instead...and since your a stock civic ex auto [like me] i would say either get that exhuast or get the injen intake... injen intake you will love the sound it gives you and you can feel the little throttle response... i got it and at the first light i just hit the gas like normal and the tires started spinning

Ok... how will the sound be with no cat and a 2.5" pipe? still like the exhaust clip in the exhaust forum?
who told you the obx was crap? i got the obx full catback. its full stainless steel, has a greddy evo style muffler and sounds great.. an plus i got it for 150 shipped new. the only thing bad about it was the hangers were too short an it was melting my bumper but i got that fixed for 10 dollars. i love my obx exhaust.
someone from this forum told me OBX was crap.....but im not gonna make any judgments lol....cuz i dont have one...but still, ima go HKS cuz i trust the name....oh...one more question....will i need any bumper modification to install the HKS muffler and will it be really low to the ground?!?

na, i have 04, so it doesnt extend like its suposed to, but it still look fine. it was tested for 01-03...etc. It wont be low at all, unless u do extream lowering to the car, u might scrap it on pots, bumps, etc.

you shouldn't have any problems unless your car is lowered...then like 7cyrus said, you'd have problems with any system

The idea is to compensate the bending and the piping diameter to get the right frequency where max. amount of air comes out.
How do u find it? Try out different exhausts and piping and then dyno test $$$
My 2 cents
thanx yall...but just to clarify, i do know the physics of exhaust flow ;-) ....i just needed to know the opinion on the particular HKS muffler and/or system.....i just plan on getting the muffler for now cuz i dont have terribly too much cash lol....but thanx for everyones input and id be glad to hear more :-)...thanx alot yall !!

A well tuned exhaust system will have to proper amount of back pressure and scavaging to help draw exhaust gases out of the cylinder when the exhaust valve opens up. What happens is the exhaust creates pulses that bounce back through the exhaust system creating a vacuum. This vacuum sucks out spent exhaust gases and helps draw fuel/air in. So when you increase the piping, your decreasing the vacuum.
Make sense? I learned this when I had a SuperTrapp exhaust and when I use to race R/C cars long ago.
