Exhaust question...

my friend and i just installed a catback exhaust on his 95 eclipse. the exhaust is a holley air mass..(thing is loud )

should there be smoke coming from the cat and the exhaust within the first few minutes? there was a paper-type thing that came with the exhaust that should fit between the end of the pipe and the beginning of the exhaust.

is it just burning that paper or whatever's in the muffler/piping?

we have to go back in a couple days and retighting everything anyway right?

thanks guys...

if this is a n00b ? then

i had the same thing when i installed my A'PEXi WSII exhaust for a couple days (of light/short distance driving).. me and my friends assumed it was just the exhaust burning off the excess gasket within the piping.. someone can prolly tell you what it really is.. it should go away after a couple days..

dont worry its normal.

its actually a light oil coating to keep the chrome clean and when it burns it leaves a coating on it to help protect the exhaust.

thanks for the response guys...

about the smoke coming from the cat? is it just leaking and we need to tighten it back up? the paper thing that came with the exhaust didn't even seem big enough to fit over the bolts, my friend had to cut it a little to make it fit.
