DX-EX conversion
Hey, I'm in texas here, I know I can get a JC whitney CARB universal free-flow design and have a shop make the muffler and the cat back, but I have questions if anyone can give me some clues as to what routes I might take..
Thanks,
CG

if you want to go from dx to ex exhaust...you need to get the ex header, ex downpipe, o2 sensor needs to be lengthened, and an ex sway bar...then you can get an ex cat back...those are the only things you need to change though...if that's what you were looking for...
dx to ex is not pointless at all...the dx exhaust is set up for better emisions...which means more restriction of air flow than the ex exhaust, which is set up for more per say performance...you can tell the diff more going from dx to perf ex exhaust than you can going from stock ex to perf ex exhaust...def worth it...
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

no offense but im starting to wonder why anyone puts a $600 exhaust on a car that only has 115 horsepower to start. Its kinda like why not just make it look hot and accept that our civics are slow?
yes i need sleep, but i just can't see spending that much on an exhaust unless you turbo your vic.

It's a possibility in a few years, but mainly it just that the ex header and mid-pipe are far superior to the dx. With the header and o2 sensors and a muffler, a shop could make the exhuast system realtively cheap. basically I'm not going to modify the outside again for a while once i get settled with the marriage, basically a year and a half or 2. but I want a little boost, I would get just a full ex exhuast and work from there if I found a good deal, I just want the car a little more sporty until I can go turbo or something.
With a cat and a muffletr, and the header (and O2's) then that is basically 10 horsepower and I want a light pur and a bit more power. Also, it would then be an upgrade of phenomenal proportions when I go turbo... a dx/lx would be quite hard to get great power with from a turbo due to the massive restrictions placed in the header.

1. EX Header (DC Sports)
2. EX Exhaust (Magnaflow)
3. EX Swaybar (OEM)
4. Lengthened 02 sensor (DIY)
5. Downpipe [?] I thought DP is specifically for FI application [?]. If not, where can I find this downpipe? I thought this downpipe is included with the EX Header [?]. Wait, is this the OEM name---> 'front pipe' instead of the downpipe???
Whan confuses me is that the Magnaflow exhaust is for 01-up DX/LX/EX application. I thought the exhaust cannot be interchanged unless the header is modified for EX application also?
help [?]
I have an LX if that matters.
edit: Is this what some of you call the downpipe? Its called a 'front pipe' by Honda.
edit #2:
Now, If I were to get a DC Sports 4-1 Header, will I still be needing the downpipe/front pipe?
This DC sports one looks like the downpipe/front pipe is already integrated to the header.

The downpipe includes the cat... so when you purchase a downpipe, you will need to either buy one from Random... look in hte group buy section... they have a Random cat/downpipe for an EX, that's exactly what you need. If you don't wanna spend that much money and don't care about emissions... you can buy the downpipe for an EX without a cat (testpipe) and it will only cost you 60 bux... your decision... I'm going to have to recommend the Random EX cat/downpipe... it's really your best bet...

The exaust might be worth it to a small amount but just don't go overboard and plan on changing teh cylinder heads and stuff too for the vtec and the extra 12 Flywheel horses.
And we know our cars are slow.(well most of them anyways
) so we go slow with style.
and besides getting a turbo setup and stuff wont make it the fastest thing on the track but its worth doing for that extra bit of boost and for some people its even worth doing just for the sound of the whine and the BOV.
(even if its only .5 psi) and besides it could smoke any stock civic on the street (up to teh speed limit of course
street racing is bad bad...)

If the whole set-up will cost me $900, Id rather spend it on OEM Aero Kit. I cant justify $900 for a little bump on horsepower and still get laugh at on the street. With the OEM aero kit, at least they can say "wow, clean car."

are you kidding me? the dx exhuast is the same as the lx. The emissions are the same for ex,lx, and dx. It has nothing to do with emissions.

I think the reason why owners would want to convert is due to availability of parts for EX. I know there are manufacturers with LX/DX applications but most company only offers EX application. EX application, you have more option on the brand.
If I do go with the EX application, I'll be installing the cheapest part I could get
Megan all the way
